I would rate this a five star but to be honest I do not have a reference point for comparison (sorry Roku). I got a hand me down Roku in the spring of 2015 and cut that cable cord. It is a first edition I believe, back when 480 was high def, I know it's old and still works great so I trusted this brand for streaming. I bought a Roku stick in January 2016, does a great job for me with my 780p and 60 Hz TV. My Wi-Fi is 13 mbps and the router is in very close proximity less then 8 feet away. I stream CBS all access and do get frequent buffering but think it is the app (note the super bowl was streamed and there was absolutely no problem !). Netflix and Hulu smooth pretty much all the time. One thing I appreciate when streaming Hulu to my windows 8.1 laptop it will actually tell me what shows are new, this is absent from the Roku stick...so I look up Hulu on the laptop, find what I want to watch and then switch to the Roku, not a real issue. Load time to me is something you just get used to as a cord cutter. Just a great product !
I bought this for a extra TV but I big TV has surround sound with one HDMI port and we could not use the regular Roku so we used the streaming stick and it works great.
We're are leaving cable and trying different streaming options. Was super excited to use the roku stick as we already have the fire stick and love it. Unfortunately, it wouldn't stay connected to the remote. Even used my phone as remote but still wouldn't stay connected. We returned it and will either try another another stick or different roku model.
I am unhappy with this product. It worked for a few weeks, then it just stopped. The picture just flickers.( Like a flickering light bulb) I switched HDMI ports...still same problem. Internet speed cannot be the problem.(AT&T U-verse Max Plus) Maybe this particular stick I have is defective. What are my options? Was considering getting two more (in order to do away with high TV bill)...BUT NOT AT THIS TIME.
I love watching TV shows but I hate commercials. With my Roku I can connect to numerous content applications like Netflix, Amazon, Hulu etc...and watch all my favorite shows without annoying commercials. Other than HBO and Showtime, I don't watch regular cable TV at all anymore, I watch everything with my Roku.
