We rented a condo in Florida and it did not have a smart TV. We used a Roku and hall all the content that we love: Netflix, Amazon, Great Courses, You Tube, etc. I used my smart phone and casted them to the TV. So wonderful!! Super easy set up!
The Roku stick is extremely compact an easy to use. The speed the device process commands is fast and accurate. The only thing missing from the Roku stick is the ability to conect a wireless set of headphones via Bluetooth.
Still waiting for the promised "HDMI extender" to potentially solve the connectivity issues with the remote and stick. The only that saved this player from a return is the phone app remote.
Overall, I enjoy my Roku very much. It's a cool device that makes my older TV feel like a smart TV. However, I frequently get an error message stating "content disabled ", which is quite annoying. I read online to fix the issue I should restart my Roku and the issue should be resolved. Unfortunately, restarting is a temporary fix. Some days I have to restart the Roku multiple times to get it working properly again.
I first purchased the Roku3 and used it for over a couple of weeks. Based on my experience I decided to buy the streaming stick for my bedroom. Access to all functions are the same; however, the streaming experience is slower. The remote seems a little rinky dinky compared to the Roku3's remote. Other than that I would recommend it. The other thing with all remotes for Roku, they are EXTREMELY senstivie. Very easy to setup the system.
When I first got my streaming stick it worked great. Unfortunately, after 6 months and a software update all went downhill. It failed to connect to the internet...then after multiple restarts and changing Hdmi ports it would arbitrarily connect. All would go well until you hit the pause button...when I resumed with the play button I got a pink screen telling me content was disabled and not authorized! Then, it back to restarting over and over again. The only positive part of this is that Romulus replaced the unit for free even though it was no longer under warranty. The new unit worked great until it made its first software update...then, it was the same problem all over! It makes me think there is a bug in the newer software. I have become so frustrated I stopped using my Romulus...it is just too unreliable and therefore prevents me from signing up for any additional premium content!
I retired and needed to cut down on expenses. I bought an antenna and a Roku stick and have no more monthly bills. there is much more content on the Roku stick than I thoight. I
