I purchased stick with reservations. price was reasonable. after set up and use I was pleasantly surprised. I would, and have, recommended the purchase and use of the roku.
I have had the roku HDMI stick since April 2014 and I love it.
My TV port makes it a tight fit and you can't use an extender w it (I tried purchasing one from amazon for a few bucks) which sucks. But it fits okay. It'd be nice if it was a more flexible plastic or an inch shorter.
I primarily use the roku for these apps: Netflix Spotify Youtube Slacker I heart radio And some misc weather apps.
I haven't been impressed w most of the specific channels (a&e, lifetime) or the themed ones (horror movies) but it works perfectly for the apps above.
We have been using this for just over a month. Easy to use. Only set back, while searching for something to watch, it will sometimes restart itself and you have to wait about a minute or so to start over searching. Other then that, we have enjoyed using it.
The reason I didn't give this the full 5 stars is that I mostly want to use it in hotel rooms when I go away and can't because in most hotel rooms you need a password to connect to the internet which is on a webpage, but there is no web browser on the Roku so it makes it very difficult to do. I have read about some workarounds, but I just want plug and play. If there was a web browser, even a basic one with just the function of entering in a password at a hotel, it would be perfect!
This little Roku is the best money I've spent on an electronic device. When I didn't have cable watching the Newsy feed was invaluable to receive current news. Now that I do have cable I've found I like using the Roku better for certain watching. I still like the Newsy feature to quickly view current news. Even better is the ability to watch Showtime On Demand. The interface is so much better than the TWC box. For $50 you can't go wrong. With or without cable it's an essential piece of audio/video equipment now for me.
I have had Roku for a few years now but wanted the stick for a portable TV. I like the idea that power to the unit comes from a USB cord connected directly to the TV.
I needed help with my broken Roku streaming stick. I love my Roku and was very upset. I got online, chatted with the service people and within 1 month they found the problem. They arranged for me to mall it back to them and I received a brand new stick. I would highly recommend Roku!!!!
