I have amazon prime and a netflix subscription! Roku accommodates those subscriptions! The roku streaming stick is the perfect way to watch movies on your tv! You can also listen to pandora! I can plug it into any tv in my house!! It's awesome!!
Had to return it to the store. Went back to my Roku 2. Had problems with it picking up the signals when not in direct line with the wifi, then it became hot to the touch after a couple hours. Maybe mine was defective, but it didn't give me the performance of the simple Roku 2. I initially purchased it so I would have something easy to carry from one level in the house to the next. Problem solved I just keep two hi def wires near the TVs I use and carry the Roku 2.
I have two of Roku's products. The box and the streaming stick. At first i couldn't accept that something this small, could do all it said. But they do, and do it well. Although there are hundreds of channels. I use only a few regularly. Netflix. Amazon Prime and Acorn TV. And a few others that I enjoy. The set up is easy. Although you have to set up Netflix etc as well. Using your PC. I have issues with Acorn seizing up, but as I've had to trouble with other Channels. The fault must lie with Acorn. So far no help from them. on that problem. But Roke 3 and stick work wonderfully.
The only negative I have for this model is the fact that the remote control has become commercialized. I DO NOT WANT (FROM ANY MANUFACTURER - Vizio too) branded stations on my remote. Either leave these off the remote or allow me to reprogram them. The less buttons the better. Plus the buttons are positioned right next to the pause button. Not a smart placement.
On the positive, I own 3 Roku XS. All of the Roku products are well made, there are a ton of things to watch for free. My Roku works better than my WiFi enabled Vizio TVs. I will never buy a WiFi enabled TV again, as long as Roku offers a competitive solution.
I used to use my WiFi DVD player to watch Netflix. It was always down loading movies super slow. A 90min. movie, was taking 2 hours to complete!. My Roku, hardly ever makes me wait while "down loading". Since I do not subscribe to monthly cable, Dish, etc... this and my antenna are my only source of entertainment. Best purchase I've made in a long time!
