I've streamed through my blu-ray player and XBox 360 previously. I've seen the Chromecast in action and while it is cheaper, you get what you pay for. No Amazon, few other options. Fire TV is the only one I haven't seen, though they seem to be mssing a few basic options that Roku has. I'll likely by another soon to replace my Xbox streaming.
I bought this with the thought of using it as I travel for work on a weekly basis. This thought became a reality and I am loving this solution. Having the same Roku interface with me as I go from hotel room to hotel room make my late night streaming simple and consistent. I also use it on vacation and visiting family. My entire video collection in an amazingly small form factor. I love it and can't imagine having to leave home without it.
We purchased the Streaming Stick (HDMI Version) for one of the bedrooms. The very next day we purchased a second due to how well the device worked for our needs. The Roku has performed flawlessly for us for several months now and we very happy with it. The problem we have is the remote. It literally consumes batteries. We have resorted to using the Android App to control the devices.
Have some issues with the reception. Sometimes it takes too much time to react. The price is good and if you have an excellent wifi signal near it, you might enjoy it.
