I purchased this item for a second TV after I had installed a Roku 3 on my first TV. The installation was quick and simple. This product does what it is supposed to do and meets my expectations. No complaints so far.
Bought this to use as a second Roku device for our home (we owned the Roku 2 XD).
Pros: Works well, especially the remote which does not require a direct line-of-sight to the stick like the Roku 2 does. Seems to have a quicker response time than the Roku 2 does.
Cons: the stick requires more clearance between the TV input and our TV stand that I had anticipated, primarily because there is a required AC adapter that plugs into the bottom of the stick which I was not aware of before purchasing. I was under the impression that the stick was powered through the TV's HDMI jack, but it is not. The stick would not fit in the rear of our 19" TV as it sits too close to the TV stand. It fits fine in our 32" TV, but only when I leave the TV input jack cover off - with the AC adapter plugged in, there isn't enough clearance to use the cover.
Overall it is a quality product and I would recommend it, but just be aware of physical limitations with your television set and the power supply requirement.
I had chromecast for a couple of weeks - used to watch ESPN. The problem I had was I had to keep my phone with data turned on always close to the TV. If the TV goes out of reach or if I turn off the data then the ESPN app would stop working. Returned it and bought ROKU - no problem watching ESPN. The installed apps does make a lot of sense if you don't have your phone or ipad always close to you.
I finally made the commitment to get rid of my cable and go with just broadcasts I could receive with a MOHU Leaf antenna, and shoes I could watch on the internet. I already had a Chromecast, but I wanted access to more channels. After looking at the Amazon Fire, and speaking with a friend, I decided the Roku would be my best bet. I chose the stick because I didn't want another box cluttering things up. The stick sits in an HDMI port, out of sight, with power provided by a USB port on my TV. The number of channels you get is astronomical, far too many for me to even want to channel surf them all. I like that the Roku lets me access my Netflix, Hulu+ and Amazon Prime accounts. If you're hesitating whether to buy one, don't. This is an awesome piece of hardware that makes your TV watching great. Setup is a snap, and the remote works great. I don't know of anything I'd want to add to it.
I wish these had been available sooner!!! An excellent system with the only drawback being how it sticks out of the television - solvable but not high on my list.
