I bought Roku because I wanted to get rid of my cable provider, unfortunately that can not be done as easy as it sounds. If you want to watch certain channels such as NBC or ABC you need a service provider. There are a lot of channels you can watch but the basic ones you will need your cable.
I decided to disconnect from cable and want on a discovery of a way to watch tv without paying a fortune. After the months of researching and I can upon ROKU my boyfriend laughed at me as I paid at the register and told me to keep my receipt for the return. 3 months later I have decided to give gift s of ROKU to my family and friends for the holiday season 2014 and have already given one one as a birthday gift. THANK YOU FOR setting me free of the bully cable network. I Love My ROKU. And my boyfriend...wants one for the livingroom :-)!
I love Roku soooo much that I've bought 12 over the years. My family knows if they don't have a Roku, they're getting one from my for their birthday.
I love the new stick (bought 3 so far) but it does have one drawback. The remote. Love that the stick can be hidden behind my TV but this means the remote doesn't work well since there's no line of sight. The Roku remotes really need to start using RF.
I bought 2 of them earlier this year for 2 HD TVs in the house. Both were easy to set up and now that comcast doubled my internet speed, none of the content has buffer dropouts.
I love the size, ease of use and lack of extra cables. The only problem is the lack of an IR receiver which makes using a universal remote with this device impossible. While the Roku remote is simple and intuitive I don't enjoy having to keep 2 remotes when I could have just 1.
