Roku is my tv companion since the day we got it, it has a long list of channels and new ones every day, for all ages, tastes and pockets. I really love the free streaming of so many channels, it's amazing. Plus I have youtube and dear netflix as well. My husband is a retired military and he loves watching the history channel, pbs, defense, hunting, etc, plus the news. We are informed everyday and the streaming stick never fails, it's easy to use and updates to offer its best. The internet at home works perfectly with Roku. I recommend it for all families, students and anyone who wants to discover lots of culture, films, music, gardening , travelling, etc.
When you buy a Roku , you have only just begun. You will be constantly buying more and more because every thing else worth watching is going to cost you as well. The "free" content is introductory and very limited. That being said there is a ton of stuff to watch. Especially if you are an Amazon Prime subscriber, or have an existing cable TV subscription. If you can verify your cable TV account you will be able to unlock some networks on demand content for no additional fee. Everything else will cost a premium, and be additional to the purchase of the Roku tuner and your Internet service. The Roku device is straight forward and easy to deploy. The user interface is easy to get your mind wrapped around also. This is not a realistic replacement for satellite or cable TV service. It does allow you to get a whole lot more from your Internet connection. Most of what Roku does can be duplicated on a PC or Internet streaming capable DVD player or console game system. Roku just makes it a little easier for people not already invested in that direction. I recommend the Roku for what it is. What it isn't is a silver bullet for cheaper television content. In fact you should consider the cost of a Roku, and the Internet connection it requires to be in addition of cable or satellite service.
I've had the Streaming Stick for a couple of months. It is located downstairs from my router, but is only about 15 feet away. Some of the titles take awhile to load and if you try to FR or FF, there is a reloading process. Also, I haven't figured out to set the preferences, especially for the audio source.
I bought this about two months ago and it's great...lots of programming choices. I will say it appears Comcast has gotten wind of so many in my hood and they are messing with the WIFI signals. I heard ATT did the same thing and got sued and LOST. It works fine but sometimes has to restart due to Comcast's nonsense.
