The interface is very slow and wifi reception is quite poor. Netflix keeps dropping down to "240" resolution - will only stay up at 720 for a couple of minutes at a time. Meanwhile, sony bluray player reports excellent wifi reception and has not had any of the streaming issues I've had with the roku stick. However, interface for sony player is horrible - roku is very nice. My wifi router is only 1 room away - maybe 20 feet. I should be able to get a good wifi signal with a wet noodle.
I'd like to try a "regular" roku on loan from someone before spending more money and risk having same poor performance.
It's been almost two months since I've had my Roku stick and i love it! The channels are pretty affordable which is great, compared to cable subscriptions which the apartment owners don't give much variety on (they only let AT&T be the only cable company we can get). The downside is that you do need a cable subscriptions for certain channels. Other than that, it's still pretty great!
I bought it about a month ago and it works good, has all the apps I want but it is so slow when I use my remote. For example when I try to search something on YouTube or Netflix the amount to time it take to get from one letter to another is incredibly delayed is takes forever. Also a lot of the apps on there you have to set up a subscription or sign in with you cable account (if you have one) and it sucks because I do not have a common cable provider ex. Dish, Comcast etc. it's more of a local one, Bright House Networks. Other than that though it's great.
Have been using this device for about 9 months. My only problem is navigating with the remote, like on You tube to hunt down programs and such. Not easy to get back to the programs or get to the end of the program and such.
I use my roku as my travel media streaming solution. Makes watching netflix and amazon instant video a snap. Also makes managing third party subscriptions like hulu and cbs all access easier to turn on and off without any annoying cancellation process (and consolidates billing). Did have a few crashes where the stick needed to restart, but totally bearable.
I bought this a month ago because my cable company only offered DVR on one tv in my house. I use the tv with the Roku stick more than I do the tv with DVR now! I was worried my 9 year old wouldn't be able to work it but she loves it too!
