This is an awesome product and works perfectly. Plug in into the TV and if you have wifi you are all set to go. Change the input on your TV and you are set to watch gorgeous HD video. A great invention, no downside.
I first purchased a Roku 3 and what an amazing product , yes you have to plug it into an ac outlet , again referring to the Roku 3 where as the roku streaming stick you do not however I gave the Roku 3 to my brother and bought a stick thinking it would be as fast but its nowhere near the same speed to load , yes it works yes it does basically the same thing however if you have the extra 40 dollars by the better Roku 3 more features and lot faster
Roku is a must have. With my satellite TV account, I get HBO, ESPN channels and games, a number of other channels. Also I have Netflix, the only way to watch it is with Roku. Plus I use a number of other channels like Crackle, Fox TV, and private channels. I use it the most with PlayOn TV, combined with Roku is a must have experience. I have several Roku's in the house. Also, I can use my smartphones and tablet as a remote.
I have the top of the line Roku in my TV room. I have the Roku stick in my bedroom. Here are the pros and cons. Pro: The both supply the same programming. I predominately use Netflix, but other apps functions also very well. Cons: My computer and router (in my office) are approx 20 feet from my TV room and approximately 35 feet from my bedroom. I have a wood house with normal plaster walls. The upscale ($99) Roku functions almost flawlessly while the stick operates very, very S L O W L Y. There is nothing to inhibit the signal (the signal is strong as read by my iPhone) ergo, there is no reason why the stick should operate so slowly. As for the top-of-the-line Roku (with earphone capabilities), it was driving me nuts that when I had the earplugs installed, after approximately a 1/2 hour, all functions on the Roku would stop working. At first I thought maybe my batteries were dead; but that was not the case, because I checked them with a meter. It seems that the earphones have a tendency to short out the unit. The fix? Turn the unit off; take the battery cover off; rotate the batteries; take the earphones out; start the unit........continue watching WITHOUT earphones.
I bought this so I could kick out the cable company but realized I couldn't watch all my current network shows. However, it's worth every penny because I use Amazon Prime and Netflix a lot. This is the second Roku I've purchased and this one will travel with me when I go out of town.
we use two roku devises in our home. love both set ups but the stick over the power head is much easier to use. only thing the three year old grand son says when he comes over is "pa tim roku"
