We bought the Roku stick shortly after they became available because our "smart" Blu-ray player didn't have apps for certain content providers. The Roku apps were faster and better in nearly every way than the ones provided by the player in addition to having an overall better user interface. Additionally, the RF remote makes for much easier use than the traditional IR remotes that come with AV equipment. The only thing missing would be a way to subscribe to local HD channels. If we had that, we could completely cut the cord with the cable company!
Easy to install. Easy to use. Great picture. The only problem is the same as I had with my Roku 2, sometimes the streaming is interrupted and it does not come on again and the picture and voice get out of sink. At least is does not happen as often on the Stick vs. Roku 2.
My wife and I spend a lot of time in hotels and in all honesty now days most have good fast high speed internet, but some have really sketchy TV coverage. We stay at some fairly frequently and because the company determines which hotels can be used along with the fact the some of the towns only have one option we get saddled with a couple places that have about 10 channels and six of those are sports related! Now I can hook it up to their TV and have access to hundreds of channels and I don't have to tie up my computer to do so.
So happy with it. My adult children also went ahead and bought themselves one also. We ate all enjoying it. Ages 61-11 there is something for everyone.
Had some difficulty setting it up. Weak reception & had to move my router closer. Would not work off my 32" LED, had to use the 120V plug. Could not remember my router security code so had to get a different router. Finally it works. Fair price and nice and compact. The plug on the Roku could be stronger as it tends to bend.
