We have two sticks and bought them instead of the traditional device because we thought it would eliminate the need for power cords. Both sticks will not work without the power source. Not sure if different models of tvs would provide more power. But, just be aware that you will probably still need to plug it in. It is nice not to have to find somewhere to put it since the tvs are wall-mounted. Does the job without having to reset too often.
I bought this a month ago and already have more free channels than I have time to watch. I will most likely get a couple of paid channels once I decide which ones I want. The ROKU streaming stick is not perfect, some videos take a minute to load. Some channels do have a few commercials and some have a glitch no and then. But I still would recommend this to anyone over cable or dish.
I have 3 of the Roku 3 devices and bought the stick for a tv in the kitchen. It is slower to load than the Roku 3 devices, but once loaded, it works as well. Small and effective. The setup for the various channels is very cumbersome and time consuming, one of the drawbacks. After that, they are a breeze to use.
I received my Roku as a gift. It has some great features but I find it can be a bit frustrating too! The "commercials" come too often, and the same commercial runs 2 or 3 times each break.
