Purchased the Roku Stick after having a bad experience with Roku 1, because it was cheap; and the Roku 1 lagged a lot.
Roku stick worked well for the first forty five days, then started lagging and around day sixty completely stopped working; too bad i lost my receipt and did not purchase the extended warranty.
Since you can only use it with wi-fi (which i knew when i bought it) the video quality really depends on your internet (So if you have At&t, don't bother getting it)
Also the remote doesnt work very well; it has a difficult time communicating with the stick; if you have a smartphone the Roku APP works pretty well.
I am really very happy with my new Roku and all it has to offer. Easy to connect and sinc. All the channels are fantastic. However their is one channel i can't sinc. The channel is Lifetime it does not provide a U-Verse provider on the it's list to be able to sinc with, i really hope this is just a small thing that can be fix with an update in the near future. This channel was one of the reasons i purchase the Roku. Overall it is a great entertainment .
I was used to the LT version I got of Roku a while back, with the box and HDMI hookup, so I reckon my expectations were higher? I thought something newer HAD to be better. However, here are my complaints: The remote is delayed in response. When I click, I expect a response, but it often takes a few presses of the button, along with the patience of bluetooth to catch up. This is with brand new batteries, mind you. The power for the stick from the TV is brilliant...UNTIL you turn off the TV. Now, every time I want to watch something on Roku, I have to wait for it to boot up after I turn on the TV. That is time waster 2. Finally, the response isn't the best with wifi. The first time I used it, it kept having to buffer...and buffer...I refused to take it back simply because it has no cables protruding out of the TV, but I honestly think this thing should be WAY better than it is. I hate wasting money on something that should work at least as well as it's much less powerful predecessors.
Roku is the best addition I have made to my home theater system. It makes searching for movies and TV a joy and the price options have saved on my entertainment. I can always find what I am looking for at a reasonable price.
I purchased the Roku stick to use with a television in our rec room. My kids love the idea that its wirelessly linked to the internet so they can easily play movies and shows(extra fees apply depending on the service) and the remote is simple to use. Also portable, we took it on vacation where we had wifi available. The only draw back I have found is that the hdmi port on the television forces the roku stick to be pressed at an odd angle when plugged in. I am concerned that this will put stress on the circuit board solders and cause them to break
What is not to love? I have a Roku ready TV and was missing features that my bf had on his TV. I watch a lot of TV due to my health and sick of the same movies on cable. So I chose the Roku Streaming Stick as my choice when he went to buy me a gift. It took minutes to set the stick up. Plug in to TV, plug in to power source and simply sign up with Roku and choose what channels you want to add and with internet access you set up your channels and then you have options for your TV watching pleasure. I didn't need anything fancy and I do have a fast internet connection and have had only had one problem the entire time. I simply couldn't get Roku to work after using it for a while. I called customer support and the service to me was awesome. Service Rep got me back up and running in a short time and stayed with me on the phone until I was able to use my Roku again.
I am very happy with the purchase and the service and for me I didn't need the extra features of the Roku 3. Otherwise I'm not missing anything at all by opting to buy the stick. I do recommend you have a fast internet speed because you will use the Roku stick by connecting via Wi-Fi. I have never had an interruption on any program I've watched. Also Roku stick offers you something extra when you purchase a stick. I think it changes over time but you will see on the packaging what they are offering. I got a free 2 month subscription for a channel. It was a channel I wanted to try anyway and now have all the information I need to make a decision whether or not I intend to keep that channel.
If your a member of Netflix, Amazon, have HBO or Showtime already then you simply have all of it at your fingertips with the Roku. For me an excellent purchase.
