I have a Smart TV and a couple of Blue Ray players that I can stream movies with but the Roku is so much simpler. I have only used it so far with my Netflix account so really haven't explored its capabilities yet.
I'm by no means a good tech reviewer but I do own both the chromecast and roku HDMI stick. I've got to say when it comes to using Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, and casting it from your phone the roku takes the prize. But it does not feature everything the chromecast does but for everyday watching of online streaming roku is best to use hands down.
No complaints other than an occasional failure to log into a particular service, sometimes causing the device to hang. A restart by cycling the power corrects the problem. Other than that, I really like the ROKU and am considering purchasing another for our bedroom TV.
This is my second Roku, but my first Stick Roku. I love it when it works, but when it doesn't, it is a pain. My TV is mounted on a wall at the ceiling. When it doesn't work (like right now), I have to go in the garage to get my ladder and cllimb up and unplug the stick and then plug it back in.
No mentioned in ad about required power transformer. I had to purchase an HDMI extension cord because wall mounted TV did not allow room for the stick. Always asks if I want netflix or Kids...no obvious way to set it always to Netflix standard. Would not waste your money.
