I have purchased 5 Rokus for family and friends. My brother purchased his own Roku 3 based upon my recommendation. He loved it so much he bought the streaming stick. I have told so many people about the Roku and how easy it was to install and that they tell me I should I should work for Roku. And, they actually made purchases and later told me I was absolutely correct in my description, setup, and how it worked and they are telling their friends..
I returned my roku the next day and got my money back. It was advertised as free tv but the first thing you have to do is put in your credit card. It was not free movies and very little tv was actually free. You have to pay for everything. I was unhappy with my purchase.
I bought this ROku so that it was more portable and didn't take up counter space. I have it plugged in all the time to increase the WiFi reception and still can't get it to work properly. I have a box ROku unit and love it, but the stick is just not up to par with the box units. I plugged the box unit in and checked my WiFi with a lap top and there is plenty of bars available where the unit is located.
So I have three currently in my home, just based on that, the product has won me over enough that I keep coming back for more.
The best things about this product for me beyond being able to catch up on shows, is that it connects directly with my media server, allowing me to instantly access any of my home videos, photos, etc. on any TV in my home.
That being said, I do have some gripes that keep it from being a five-star product in my book.
Speed. There's a slight delay when opening new channels and sometimes when going between titles, I'm not sure if this is an issue with the remote, or with the interface itself, but making it more responsive would be a huge improvement.
Crashing. I guess this can happen with any product, but every so often in the middle of watching something the Roku will just crash.
Pairing with laptops or mobile devices. I would love to be able to stream to my Roku directly from my phone or laptop kind of like Google Chrome cast or AppleTV. Presently none of my devices permit this.
Ultimately it's awesome, if they put out a model that addresses these improvements I will most certainly upgrade.
