The inclusion of the headset jack is a great feature. I also like the application "My Media" that allows me to stream all my videos to the TV thru the Roku without having to convert to mp4, then adding the converted file to iTunes. One minor issue: when fast forwarding through a video, there's no thumbnail to show you where your at. There's only a time bar that shows how far you've gone. (Can't see where the commercial has ended.)
I have been terribly disappointed in the performance and the interface of this product. It only occasionally makes a somewhat usable connection to my WiFi, this is not a problem with any other wireless device I have. When it does connect it is extremely slow and stops streaming every few minutes to try and catch up.
I have convinced my wife that it is a reasonable alternative to cable. The product offers so many programs that it takes a while for a novice to get acquainted with its features. Hopefully a menu redesign would make it more user friendly. Also, there needs to be a weekly schedule of programs available. That way users can more easily chose the program they want to watch.
After trying the Chromecast, I tried the Roku streaming stick. Easy to install and setup. My main interest was to be able to stream video from my home computer. Once I realized that the recommended file structure was necessary, not just recommended, my opinion of the Roku stick improved. It would have saved some headaches if it had been made clear that trying to navigate my computer's pre-existing file storage pattern was not going to work. Once I rearranged things to follow Roku's rules, everything fell into place. With my in home 5G wireless, video quality is acceptable but still below a wired setup.
The Roku stick is a great product. It is easy to use. Quick to respond to the remote control. The only thing that is hard to get use to is watching what you want to watch instead of being told by someone in an office somewhere that deminds over $150 a month. I now am the program director and the schedule creator now. Lol. I pay for high speed service only from cable, 3 on demand services like Netflix, Hulu, CBS . What else do you need. I save a lot each month. Thanks ROKU. I tried others but Roku rocks!
