I got a Roku for my birthday from my son. He hooked it up Thanksgiving and we let the grandchildren watch a movie through Netflex. Since that day, we have not been able to get back on. I had him check Christmas when he came back. It had dropped the login to internet. He put it back in but then wouldn't work. He reset the wifi and never could get it to connect.
I find this device a little slow in button responce and performance and i think the remote needs a power button for the stick, i have to reset it alot. But it is convenient for netflix.
I have reset the device twice and only get sound on half of Netflix movies. That works for awhile and then sound spreads to other apps. The number of channels is great, just wish that the sound was more consistent
We bought this after reading several reviews. Super easy to start/set up and very versatile for travelling. Really impressed-do not regret switching from satellite.
This is my second Roku product. The first being a Roku 2 last year. I primarily bought it so I could wirelessly stream my Plex Media Server to my main TV, but I was pleasantly pleased by all the other features and several of the channels that it also availed me of. I'm currently traveling internationally for six months and decided to purchase a Roku stick to use for the same purpose. Here's where my problem lies though. I set it up online before leaving, but even though I'm not using it for internet streaming the device is 100% dependent on an active internet connection to operate, which being on a cruise ship, I don't have, thus making it pretty much useless. I understand needing the internet to activate and register the device but making it dependent on it is a crutch when you find yourself somewhere with bad/no internet or and internet outage. (I understand that streaming is it's primary design use but since one of the features is streaming through local networks it shouldn't need the internet do accomplish that task) As it is, I'm going to keep it anyway and use it for a second tv once I return home but be advised as to it's limitations when you're shopping for a streaming device.
