Not to be neg. , but there are some set-up issues that could be over come with better documentation. I am an EE and was able to work thing out OK. For the most part I think the Roku is out standing.. You support is the best I have seen. I bought two.
I received the streaming stick as a gift and was excited at first. We have had a Roku box for a couple years now and love it, but have had issues with a purple screen "HDMI unauthorized" appearing when switching channels. The stick appeared to solve that but at the expense of performance and reliability. The stick is generally slow when navigating with the remote, sometimes lagging for more than 1-2 seconds. Clicking and loading up channels (e.g. Netflix, Amazon, etc..) can take 15-60 seconds compared with my Roku box taking 3-5 seconds. Finally, Netflix (and other) channels appear to go invalid on the Stick fairly often requiring them (the channel) to be unloaded and reloaded to your Roku account (delete and re-add the channel). So while the Stick is a great idea for its simplicity, the Roku stick simply has some issues making it not ready for your average consumer.
I use my Roku daily. I can even watch local news if I want to. I use the youtube pairing feature to put workout and music videos on my television without having to use the cumbersome search feature on Roku itself. Even without getting paid subscriptions, I feel that the Roku is worthwhile. I don't pay for cable TV, and Roku allows me to buy movies and TV shows a la carte instead of paying cable bill every month for stuff I never watch. Some of the paid channels are worthwhile for getting a better selection (such as Netflix) so if you get a Roku, and then select a couple of paid channels, it still is cheaper than cable TV. Obviously it is not a total replacement for cable TV, but it is enough TV for me. I rarely watched the TV even when I had cable, so I am definitely saving money. The streaming is very good. I do have a very fast fiber optic internet connection. I did have a little snafu getting a lifestream during the Rosebowl, so it's not perfect. If I had a paid subscription to ESPN of course I could have watched it. It was in the livesrtam menu, though, and it wouldn't transmit for some reason. For what Roku does do, it is very good. It is also basically dummy proof if I can use it!
I have enjoy using Roku, at the beginning to set it up I did have problems I had to call customer service. They were very helpful. After that no problem it ran great.
We have two TVs in our house, one with the Apple TV and one without anything. So we wanted to get something that would give us more bang for our buck and allow us to customize for us. So, we bought the Roku Streaming Stick for our other TV. We LOVE it. You can add apps/channels so easy and quick (which you can't do on an Apple TV). It was very simple to setup and we haven't had any issues streaming. Also, you can download an app on your phone just in case you lose the remote (another thing you can't do with Apple TV). Highly recommend Roku.
