I bought this product 1 month ago, it doesn't stream most of the time and when we do get it to work it powers off for no reason. I own chromecast and love it and thought adding Roku would be a nice addition......sadly disappointed!
I bought my Roku on my last visit to US (december, 21014). I didn´t know Netflix does not run in Brasil. Disapoitment. Netflix was the main reason for the purchase.
I like the way the stick works so far. I especially like the fact that it is a standalone device that does not require a tablet.
That said, the second reason for purchasing this was so that I could mirror my dishanywhere shows/movies. As of this point, I have not been able to try the feature the mirroring from a tablet. The first tablet I purchased was only capable of casting to chrome. My nephew's Galaxy gave a message connected device does not support hdcp. My nephew's Galaxy was one on the list of compatibly devices but may have been an older build designed to work with other Samsung devices/TVs.
I am awaiting shipment of a Nexus 7 (2012 build) that will upgrade to android 4.4.2 and that Asus said supports mirroring.
I hope it works as I am tired of wiring up my laptop every time I want to watch my dish programming.
The reason I picked Roku Stick vs. Google Chromecast is because of remote control that comes with it. I can't have my parents control the device with smartphone :). However when I plugged it into a TV HDMI port, the remote control didn't work at all. I couldn't do anything. I thought I got defective unit and requested RMA and got replacement. Same issue. I started searching through forums and find out that apparently it is not compatible with all TVs. Some TVs cause interference of wireless signal which affects remote and Wi-Fi connectivity. It is not mentioned anywhere in the manual or web site. Finally I found a form on Roku site (through forum post) to request 4" extension cable, which was sent to me and seems like it fixed the problem. However my TV is mounted to the wall and now I have the Roku sticking out on the side, which defeats the purpose. Make sure you contact Roku support before purchasing to confirm if your TV is compatible. Also preset button on remote takes space and not customizable. I don't use any of the services these button preset to. I'dd better customize them to start Plex, Hulu, YouTube instead of Blockbuster (really?) Amazon Prime (which I don't have) and Netflix (I don't use).
I bought t this about a month ago. It played he fine and the picture was sharp and clear now it is not. I purchase dramafever premium for he and commercial free purposes and now the roku stick freezes horribly and the picture is not as clear on other channels. What can I do to improve what I had at 1st?
This is our 5th Roku device since we "cut the cord" over a year ago. We started with a Roku 2, then added 3 more Roku 3s and now added a Streaming Stick. Other than the remote there is no noticable difference between a Roku 3 & a Streaming Stick performance wise. Install & setup was simple as always.
