I bought this item about two months ago from a shopping channel, I have never heard of Roku before and did not do any research I paid a little more for it than if I’d gone to a store – I didn’t realize I had that option. But, despite that, it has more than paid for itself – I bought it for more channel options as I had dropped my cable a few years ago and was looking for an alternatives. I’m surprised at the many free channels that are available as well as the variety of channels – mostly I watch HULU plus, which to my surprise has a lot of shows that are featured on cable – so I get to see a lot of the programs that I used to watch on cable. It does not replace cable but I don’t miss cable at all and certainly not the bill!
A couple of negatives, when I first got it I watched a movie on Crackle which kept stopping and reloading – but I guess I didn’t have the minimum internet speed, so I increased it to the minimal and have not had any problems, the remote sometimes gets stuck, and where I depend on close-captioning it gets stuck, too or sometimes doesn’t show, I have to go back to Home page and start it over but it is a small inconvenience and doesn’t happen too often. Also, on the live events (on you tube) – it will say: “unable to use on this device”. I’m not sure if I would have to upgrade to a Roku 2 or 3.
All in all – I’m really pleased with it. It’s worth buying.
i have a roku 2 for my main room and i decided to put a roku in the bedroom but the stick has a weak signal and it lags pretty bad. cant watch a 32 minute show without it taking 48 minutes?. roku recommends its the wifi signal and my wifi says its my roku?.. shoulda just bought another roku 2, that one works fine in the second room.. sorry... stick didnt work out well for me..
I love it so much that i bought one for every tv in the house the got rid of the cable and haven't missed it a bit. Only negative is the remote. Oftentimes it doesn't work and you'll have to keep hitting the button over and over again for 30 seconds or more. Not a big deal except when you're fast forwarding or rewinding when it can be downright maddening.
Roku offers a vast selection of channels with a nice amount of Christian ones. But, still looking for "The Waltons" and "Little House On The Prairie"... hoping to see the INSP channel very soon.
