This is my third roku device (2 Roku 1's and now a streaming stick). I was excited about the non-infrared remote that the streaming stick comes with. It sucks. Either it's not working or the Streaming stick is too slow to process my input. When trying to replay or rewind in Netflix, it takes several seconds to respond, then you're already well beyond the 10 second replay so you have to rewind. This command just dumbfounds it as it takes another several seconds to bring up the rewind frames (with the movie still playing in the background). I end up re-watching 40 seconds when all i needed was 2 seconds. Usually after about 5 inputs from the remote I have to remove the battery to regain control of the Roku. The iphone app is just as bad. Every time I lock my screen with the remote pulled up, it crashes when I return to it. Then it doesn't remember the correct last device and I have to rescan my network (another 30 seconds to get to a 10 second replay). Forget about renaming the units to something relevant, it dumps that info every time you launch the app. I have to tell my devices apart by remembering the living room device ends in 4 and the bedroom ends in 7. I'd return this one if the kids hadn't immediately destroyed the box. The early version of the app was a lot more stable. Once you're into a show, it works fine, as long as you don't need to replay. I'll wait until the Amazon Fire stick has an iphone app before buying another device like this.
My remote becomes unresponsive occasionally for no reason...I think people may think the Roku device itself is frozen but this is not the case...I simply pop out and pop back in a battery from remote and its responsive again. This is inconvenient and irritating but I do not want to return BECAUSE.....my unit came with a newer remote! It is thinner, takes AAA batteries (not AA) and is different from the one pictured...the OK (Select) button is incorprated into the middle of the arrows instead of a separate button beneath. I like this much better! I do not want to return the stick and get an older version of the remote! What is up ROKU?
I intended to purchase a competitor product but it was out of stock. While I'm not unhappy with my purchase, I wish there were more apps that I watch or mirroring capabilities like that of appletv or chromecast. My other disappointment is lack of relationships existing apps have with my cable provider.
Roku is the best thing ever because it has so many channels you cannot get bored.. the remote is so easy to use and updating the player is so easy and connecting to any internet device is simple... you can even take it with you on vacation,, anywhere. Adding channels is a breeze and what I like the best is it is customized to me.. no searching threw endless channels trying to find something I want to watch and wondering why I pay so much for cable to feel like a hamster on a wheel.
