Operation

When we opened up the stock it was in German. I finally got it to reset after several tries. When we register it it took over a half hour to get that far after words it would just sit in what ever page you could get open. After messing with it for most of Saturday I returned it to the store I purchased it from. I have not decided if I am going to try one again or try something else.

As a long time Apple user, I was naturally drawn to the AppleTV to streaming media to my bedroom TV. However it lacked one key feature... Plex. I decided to give the Roku streaming stick a shot and discovered that this was the solution I needed. I've also been using many apps I formally neglected like YouTube and History channel apps! Very happy with Roku. Only critique is that I wish the user interface was just a bit more snappy. I find myself waiting slightly longer on menu items. Maybe this will be addressed in future updates.

Favorite HDMI Streaming Stick

We bought this and a chromecast about 1 month ago. We're very impressed with both however, the Roku performance is much better (maybe dual antenna). Also, Roku's main page on the tv has all different apps/services/channels to access along with a traditional remote. Which we feel really makes it worth the extra money.
Both devices were simple to connect to the tv, wifi and pairing to phones & tablets.
We rented a movie from Googleplay one night and watched half on each device. The chromecast worked nicely but once or twice, paused to buffer and it went from 1080 to 720 to 480 resolution. At that point we decided to go upstairs and try it on the Roku. The Roku didn't pause or downgrade pic quality. We've also watched a Vudu movie and experienced the same...chromecast paused/buffered plus downgraded pic quality. The Roku streamed flawlessly.
The only items I'd like to see improved is: dual processor because as others have commented, it's a little laggy...not terrible but you do notice it. Also, when watching youtube the chromecast auto plays the next video on your play list; Roku waits 10 seconds or until you press play.
For a month now, we've been using both devices everyday and not watching satellite. I've been pushing to cut the cable and this is certainly part of the answer.
Do yourself a favor and try it. I had high hopes; Roku delivered and then some!
We were so impressed, we've bought a friend one for their upcoming birthday....
