Better than 2nd Gen ATV, at least

I got this for Sling, that's it. But then I started to use it for Netflix and Hulu since Apple has inexplicably decided to stop providing updates to the 2nd gen AppleTV. The stick seems faster than the ATV but there is some occasional lag. The remote is great since it does know when I want to scroll through content. It was very easy to setup and the iOS remote app is more reliable than the ATV iOS remote ever was. I don't really care for the ads on the main screen. I have zero interest in all that has been shown thus far. So I do prefer Apple's method of not blasting me with ads or suggested content in really large panels. I wish that Roku could play music through its official Media app via the iOS remote app since I don't want my TV on all the time (I have an external receiver). But at least the Radio Paradise app does automatically play music when I launch the app from the iOS remote so I don't need to turn on the TV!

Best Portable Streaming Solution!

My wife had to spend 4 weeks in a medical rehab center, which had basic cable in her room. Since they also had wi-fi, I tried to set up a way to stream video from the internet. I started by borrowing my daughter's Chromecast, but found it would not stream content from Hulu, one of our favorite services. (Nothing associated with Google gets Hulu.) I ended up buying a Roku stick, and we were in business. Setup was a breeze. This made her lengthy stay much more tolerable, and we were able to enjoy our favorite programs when I visited each evening after work. The hospital staff mostly did not notice the setup, since the stick itself was hidden behind the TV, and only a thin power cable snaked away down the wall below.(BTW, I had to bring a programmable remote to get the TV into the right input mode, since it had a dumbed-down institutional remote. Also, hospital/nursing-home wi-fi is just not set up for "casting" feeds from a laptop or phone to a TV streaming device, since the stream would be going back through the hospital router.)

Great selection

I bought two Roku Sticks for my house and the selection of channels is great. We don't have a cable package, only an antennae. The available channels to pick from more than compensates for the lack of a cable package especially with a two year old in the house.

Doesn't perform as well as Roku 3

If you power it using a USB cable, the boot-up time is around 2-3 minutes unless your USB port on your TV always supplies power. Otherwise, powering it with the AC adapter works to keep it on constantly if you don't mind the cord hanging from the stick. I don't like the unsightly mess of loose cords, so I just deal with waiting for the Roku to boot up. The controller is also slow to respond to commands. Wireless signal reception is fair. It often stops to buffer programs which is annoying. I'm looking into high gain antenna options currently. All that being said, it's nice to have a small, portable device that I can take with me on the road. Combine it with my Tablo app and I can watch my recorded shows from home anywhere I travel with the Roku streaming stick.

I've had my streaming stick for a couple months now and it has worked exceptionally well! I have the roku 3 on my big tv, which is another fine product, and a stick on my other. Just buy one and never look back!

great features but...

I bought this about a month ago and it worked great . The only problem i had happen when i moved it to thee bedroom and the remote didnt work. I tried everything from taking the batteries out to trying to reset the roku but it was a fail. Finally i downlaoded an app on my phone and now my smart phone is my remote...a little disappointed in that part but at least it works. I love watching netflix and hulu so this is a plus for me since i only have one smart tv
