I bought the Roku stick about a month ago for my bedroom TV. We didn't want to have a new cable line ran so we thought, why not a Roku. Glad we did it. I stream all of my favorite shows, listen to music while folding laundry and when I miss TV, I use my TWC app...watch it live, and streaming to my tv from my laptop is a snap!
I'm very happy with the purchase - using the stick for our second TV works great. I was surprised by the need for a separate power source, but it works great using the USB port on the TV
Have it for about a month now and can't really complain about anything. Really like the portability. Only did 4 stars because most of the channels are useless to me since I don't have a cable provider so more 100% free channels would be nice but I understand thats not always possible.
I would be giving the streaming stick 5 starts if the remote was better. When ever the remote sits for a while, I have to take out the batteries to reset it. Very frustrating when I have my 4 year old wanting to watch something and i have to wait for the app on my phone to open before I can stream anything.
I got rid of my expensive cable bill- and replaced it with Netflix and Roku- It's really all I watch- The streaming stick is small and works great- no box needed. I highly recommend it.
After hearing and reading so much about streaming I bought the Roku and I am so happy I did! Now I can catch up on all the programs and movies I've missed.
I think this is an amazing device when you consider the features, no hassle installation, and extremely compact design. It performs so much better than the streaming apps in my TV and Blu-Ray player - those apps are horribly broken despite constant updates. The Roku eliminated all those hassles and has become the primary source for our TV viewing. I have only two complaints about my Roku stick. First is the requirement for the external power connection. You need to use a USB port or the provided power adapter with the mini USB cable. It would be sweet if the Roku stick could be powered by the HDMI plug (I know there is power available at the HDMI plug but it is most likely not sufficient for the stick). I know this is a very minor thing, but if I can eliminate more cables from the back of my TV it looks so much better. The second complaint is a bit more annoying. The remote doesn't work very consistently unless it is pointed just to the right of my tv. The Roku is plugged into my tv on that side in the rear. I tried another battery but it had no effect. Maybe I should contact Roku about this to see what they say. Other than the two things mentioned above, I love the Roku stick. It's fast enough, has an amazing selection of streaming channels, and works smoothly.
