We purchased the Roku Stick to access Sling TV: Sling TV offered it free with a three-month subscription. I'm glad we made the move to Sling. However, the Roku Stick has performed erratically. I would describe it as an ambitious piece of technology in the process of being perfected.
Our problems seem to stem from the stick's use of wifi frequencies to communicate with the remote. We returned one remote and then one stick for replacement because of problems with this aspect of the operation. Then we were given a small HDMI cable to extend the stick from the back of our TV to improve reception of the wifi signal from the remote.
While this last fix seems to have done most of the trick, the stick still operates erratically at times, especially when the stick has been dormant for a long time. It sometimes takes several reboots to get the thing operating properly.
I will say that online support has been very timely and helpful. I believe that the company is committed to making its products work for its customers.
Grand kids came for a week and installed these on two non-Direct TV TV's in the guest rooms. Kids took to the Roku's without problem. They are more gadget savvy than I am. Great product and I recommend it to my friends.
I received Roku as a gift - I was told that it would make my "regular" TV "smart". I'm delighted to say that my Roku is functioning on a higher level than my smart TV. Streaming is smooth - no interruptions or slow downs. I highly recommend it. I have purchased a second one.
Bought a month or so ago to enable me to get a one day subscription to sky sports. Easy to set up and use. Quality of TV is good (we have superfast broadband). Subsequently used for plenty of catch up TV and also taken out a Sky Movies subscription. Worked perfectly on our holiday too, so we had catch up TV whilst we were away. Only thing to bear in mind is it needs power, either from a cable to the USB if your TV has a USB socket or a plug otherwise. Remember too that this device plugs in to an HDMI socket, it is not a uSB stick. Overall, great device.
