our first unit was faulty the new one is fine, except there should be an on/off button for the stick reason being in Canada not everyone has unlimited GB memory, after a certain set point we start getting charge extra for down load memory when your stick is " HIDDEN " the screen saver still accumulates memory costs for us your competition has an on/off button--really like that featur
Works amazingly well. No problems with streaming unless it is on my ISP end. Better than an older model Roku we currently own. We now have one de every TV and gave it as a gift to my mother who loves it just as much!
roku begged me for a review so here goes. careful what you wish for.
this device is helpful because i now can stream hulu, which i couldnt do on my blu ray player. but that ends any enjoyment i have gotten from this device. none of the other apps i have found are anything special. most have things i wouldnt watch. many require paid subscriptions. i really only use the same things i used on my blu ray player. i only got this because the player stopped supporting youtube. so... youtube, pandora, netflix, hulu... otherwise thousands of apps i never actually use. which is fine. my iphone has a billion apps available i dont use as well. that doesnt make me not like my iphone.
what i hate about this device. with a passion, is its remote. it is horrible. it needs to be reset constantly. i have to take the batteries out and put them back in 10 times a day. i have had it a month and three times i have had to totally reset the remote because its starts flashing. i only figured out how to fix that by searching the internet for ideas i didnt get from roku.
and yes i can get the remote on my phone. which i have read is commonly what roku says to people with remote issues... which are a lot of people. but there are several problems with that. 1. it kills my phone battery pretty quickly. 2. it ALSO freezes up contantly which is a pain. 3. it is MY phone and i am not the only one who uses the tv. i dont want my kid running around with my phone losing it in couch cushions. my phone is not a remote. its a phone. the only benefit to the phone remote is that i get a full keyboard if i need. when it doesnt freeze up.
all said. it is a nice idea, and i think it could be a nice product. it came highly recommended which is why i bought it. they are responsible for one thing though. getting you data on your tv and making it work. and i think they failed in that, because the remote is how you control it and it is bad.
finally, the other thing is, this device makes my tv never turn off. my tv normally would turn off after not being used for an hour. when the roku is plugged in it stays on indefinitely, whether watching or not. the roku also has no off that i can see. so it constantly uses power. which i am guessing will make it wear out faster than it would if it could be turned off. and unplugging it is not an off switch. thats a work around.
i think you could do better, roku. and i think you should.
