I have used practically all generations of the Roku players. Even with my Smart TVs I purchased and hooked up Roku players as they were clearly superior to TV's smart options. After 2 of my Roku players died, I replaced with the Roku sticks - nothing but headaches - Hate them - every few days I have to repeat the remote to stick pairing - it just seems to lose the connectivity for no apparent reason. 5 out of 7 days a week remote doesn't function at first 2-3-4-5 clicks, got to take batteries out, put them back in - btw batteries test fine on Voltmeter. Very flawed execution of a great idea - stick is a great concept - portability is unparalleled, but just doesn't work. Second stick has similar issues, tad bit less. Disappointed!
I bought this a couple months ago and over all we really enjoy it. We have to do a lot of unplugging and resetting as the remote decides when it's going to work which is maybe 50% of the time.
I have the problem of expectations in that my first Roku device was the Roku 3, which is generally acknowledged as the fastest player on the market at the time of this writing. Speed for a streaming player is about startup and load time for channels. The Roku stick is completely acceptable, but feels slow because I'm accustomed to my Roku 3. This is a fine product, that works well. Do you have a TV on a wall or similar situation? This is definitely a great solution.
I bought this about a month ago not happy with the remote it keeps freezing up I have to take the batteries out put them back in and then it starts to work again when I push a button either up or down it keeps going until I push another button very frustrating
So, even though I own a ROKU 3, I went out and bought a Samsung Smart TV. Big mistake. ROKU's "always on" has spoiled me. The Samsung takes 1-2 minutes before I can use the "Smart" features and, even then, there's a lag between when you push the button and when the function occurs. So, I dropped some minor coin and picked up a ROKU Stick. Now, whenever I turn on my TV, ROKU's there waiting for me, responding immediately when I push a button. I should have saved some cash and just bought a standard TV and the ROKU Stick. And, while Samsung does offer a compatible number of channels, it's just not as user friendly as ROKU. The ONLY reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because my ROKU 3 is faster - click, click, click and I'm into Netflix - now THAT'S a 5 star tool. And the best thing about ROKU - they use the UHF signal (instead of RF) in their remotes, so you don't need to "point and press" - just press and enjoy.
Third Roku I have purchased. I gave a model 2 to a friend when I upgraded to a model three for my bedroom. I purchased the Roku stick in August for use when traveling, and on my living room set. Compact and easy to use. Good remote. Does not have the ability to read from a USB drive, so if that is important to you, look at the Roku 3, which is also terrific. Has ability to stream a huge amount of content right out of the box. Additionally, if there is content out there you want but don't see on the basic list of channels, you can probably find it on line and set your Roku to stream it.
I bought this about a month ago for use in my library. The only issue I have with it is that it lags when playing a movie. I don't have this issue with it on the living room tv, where the wifi actually sits. The library is a slight distance from the wifi area. So, I have ordered a Roku 3 for my library, and will be leaving the roku I have on the living room tv.
