I already owned a roku 3 and wanted this for another t.v.. I decided to give the stick a try. Easy to install and no extra wires or boxes to look at. The only thing I miss is the earphone jack on the remote. My other roku remote has it and I find it handy if I'm watching late at night.
Works well once a few issue were resolved. Due to my Panasonic plasma tv is wall mounted, I could not plug the Roku stick in directly to the HDMI socket. There was not sufficient room between the tv and the wall. A call to Roku customer service revealed they will supply a small HDMI extender to the customer at no charge. You must fill out a form via Roku's website and they send the cable to you. Once that arrived, I was able to test out the stick. It took a bit of maneuvering to get the wifi signal strength where I needed it. Basically you need a minimal strength of "good" or better for all functions and streaming to work properly. At "fair" the remote was not able to control things properly. Setup was pretty straightforward and the picture quality is excellent on my 720p 42" screen. No problems with streaming stoppages. Amazing amount of available channels although many are not very good. We are a heavy Netflix user and that works great.
We left the cable TV field because there never seemed to be anything good on TV, even with lots of channels. Everything we watch on ROKU is a pleasant experience.
I have four Roku units in the house. A Roku 3, a Roku 2 and 2 Roku Sticks. They're awesome except they are always asking you if you're still watching a show, so you have to click OK on the remote, or they stop to retrieve the signal about every 45 minutes. This does not happen on SlingTV or Netflix...mostly when watching QVC
