The remote loses connectivity as soon as it get's it, and is a piece of trash. Luckily there is an app that you can download to serve as a remote. The actual streaming stick and service it provides are great. However, I am very disappointed with the quality of the hardware.
I use my roku almost every day. The stick isn't as fast as the boxes are, but it doesn't bother me. I love the search function!! My remote seems to be defective, though. It will rarely connect with the stick, and even when it does connect, it quickly loses connection and I have to take the batteries out multiple times to get it to work again (the reset button does nothing for this problem). I use the app on my phone instead of fighting with the provided remote.
I have to keep moving this stick from one slot to another to get it to work. It gets very hot and i am afraid there is something wrong with it. Most days I have to try many times to get it to connect. The Roku 3 in the house is wonderful never giving us any problems.
Between the Roku 1, and Roku Stick, go with the HDMI Stick as it will give you Netflix profile support, but know the shortcut buttons on the remote can be a little too sensitive, causing it too jump too that app, I wish they would just be taken off the remote, like one of my older Roku 1 boxes, and sometimes in some apps the button presses can cause things to either jump around, or not respond with me having to take a battery out, and let the remote reconnect via WiFi Direct. Beyond that remote awesome value, and I must give a disclaimer, as I got my ROKU Stick for free by paying in advance for 3 months of SlingTV.
