We bought this because it's the only stick you can use Sling on. We have Chromecast as well, which we've all enjoyed (more so myself, my brothers are still mourning the loss of their live coverage of sports but I can't help that they don't want to help pay the cable bill) so I can give my honest opinion of the Roku. I honestly would rather stick with the Chromecast. Our Roku seems to freeze up a lot on Sling, forcing you to go back to the Home menu just to get Sling working again. The batteries in the remote seem to die very fast. Since purchasing the Roku about a month and a half ago, we've had to change the batteries 3 times. Granted, the Chromecast has its downsides, but overall, I feel like it's way better and less dropping of shows than the Roku.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Problem on and off with remote. Have to remove batterries every so often, and reinstall them.Better to down load Roku remote app makes everything work smoother when controlling from your android phone. Easier to navigate in the dark because the keyboard is lite up on your phone. Easy setup be sure to create a pin makes it easier when making purchasing movies and channels. Great phone support! Enjoy

Great product! Makes your tv smart for only about $50! Can we slow at times but rarely! Has all entertainment apps!!

I have owned a Roku 2 for some time, and wanted a Roku for a smaller tv in another room. I decided on the Roku stick and am very pleased that I chose it. It works very well

Keeps freezing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the third stick that I have had to replace!!! It keeps freezing and nothing seems to work at some point. Reset, reset to factory settings, turn on/off, unplug and let sit. Very frustrating!!!!!!!!!!

Received in the mail and found it easier than anticipated to set up and use with Sling TV. Cost was a great feature and the free stick was sent promptly. Purchased a smart TV and was disappointed. This is much better!
