No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank you for your review. You are correct that this product does not come with an HDMI cable. However it does come with the necessary RCA audio/video cable to get you up and running that work with most TVs. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this dvd player for Christmas due to my old one quitting on me. This is a Great working DVD player, works as it should, good quality picture and it even came with a remote that has All the buttons!
