The outer rubber coating has become very soft and sticky

The exterior coating has gone soft and will leave black tacky sticky residue on anything it touches (including all over your hands, clothes, and face). The black residue is very difficult to remove from your hands and fingernails (I had to use solvent on my hands and my wife's makeup remover on my face, soap and water does not work). I could not get the residue off of my clothes and disposed of them. I would like to ask what I should do in order to use my binoculars (short of throwing these out and buying new ones). The entire outer coating has gone bad, including the rubber covering the eyepieces, so it would not appear to be a usage/contact issue. Please help solve this problem! Photo enclosed showing the deteriorated coating, wear, sticky surface, and impression marks left from my fingers. Thank you for your assistance in this matter!

Sticky coating, unknown as to why. Don't buy until fixes the issue.

I've had these for my boat and they have been wonderful. I've owned them for close to ten years without an issue. I'm now noticing the coating has become sticky. They function fine, but the sticky shell is nasty. I'll be looking for a cure to right this wrong.

Buyer Beware

As with most CANNON Products I’ve had over many decades, these initially functioned very well. But a “faulty outer-coating” on my 10x30 IS Binocs (has deteriorated over time into a sticky gooey mess) which has rendered them unusable. At the price of these, I think ONE STAR is being VERY GENEROUS.

The outer rubber covering has gone soft and sticky

Absolutely disgusting mess. The cross-linking in the rubber compound has broken down and the exterior will leave black rubber residue on anything it touches (including all over your hands, clothes, and face). The black goop is hard to get off your hands and the product is defective. NEVER EVER BUY THIS, you will regret every moment once the case exterior has dissolved in your hands and the black goop is under your fingernails.

Sticky Coating

I bought it a few years ago. Works very well. But the coating has become sticky. I am very disappointed with a great company like Canon not addressing this issue and not replacing this item free off charge, because they should. It is the fault in manufacturing.

I bought my Cannon 10X30 IS Image Stabilizer binocs in 2013. Now the coating is sticking to my fingers leaving a black tar residue on my fingers. Impossible to clean the binocs. I clean my fingers with alcohol pads.
