Amazing functionality for little $$

Huge bang for the buck. Very straight forward and easy to use. Within 15 minutes I had a system down for labeling all my cables and equipment with saved templates. Printing bar codes is a huge plus for me so I can keep track of where equipment is deployed. Found a great smart phone app for scanning bar codes that sends the data straight to my computer, which queries a database. Life couldn't be easier!
Pros: Easy Controls, Easy To Set Up, Crisp Printing, Prints Fast, Quiet, Versatile, Saves time, Durable Labels

The best labeler for electrical/IT work out there
on October 18, 2024

I've had this product for years and it has met every need of mine for labeling, especially for electrical work and wiring. Keep in mind that this is an industrial labeler specifically designed for contractor/electrician/networking work so it may not be the best for other uses. I love the QWERTY keyboard, and use it frequently to label wires, switches, panels, panel breakers, patch bays, and more. The built-in formats are extremely useful for this purpose. The wide selection of label materials, such as nylon, vinyl, and poly allow great flexibility for different uses, and high durability for the labels. For newer projects the heatshrink option is amazing. Make sure you use the correct type for your application. My only (minor) issue is that it can be battery hungry - when using AA alkalines make sure you remove them between uses. Does not really work with rechargeable AAs due to their lower voltage. Use the Dymo battery if you want rechargeable. I definitely recommend this for wire and electrical labeling! I'm submitting this review because as a long time user I feel that the other reviews here are not representative.

No underscore!?!?
on November 18, 2019

I bought this to make cable wraps, label patch panels, label computers, and other things such as what it claims to be for. The naming convention for our PC's includes underscores. It was only after purchasing that I discovered that there is no underscore option... WHAT? Underscores are extremely common in IT where you would be making barcodes and cable wraps... how is there no underscore!?
Beyond that, it can be very confusing on how to accomplish certain tasks. It comes with a little guide booklet that helps a bit, but nothing is ever really explained. It just says "to accomplish this, press this button, then that button, then this button." So if I have a task that isn't specifically detailed in that booklet, it's a mystery trying to figure out how to do it.
I will agree with others that it does seem to jam a lot more often than I'm used to with label printers. Not sure if it's a design issue or what.
Oh, one last thing. The print button and label cut switch are placed in such a manner that many times when I went to cut the label, I accidentally reprinted it.
I just spent a lot of money on this considering it is a label maker, so I don't really want to buy a different one since this one isn't technically broken... I guess I'm just stuck with it for a while until I can get some ROI.

Too many missing basics
on January 20, 2020

I bought this labeler because it has a qwerty keyboard and because it can also print multi-line labels, and supports several widths of labels. I also like that it has a backlight display and is very quiet.
However, it is missing the underscore and ampersand characters and many characters are hiding in sub menus making them a pain to use. They could have made them directly accessible with alt-letter keys.
I also find the size 12 narrow font to be too wide. I was expecting for the same narrow font from the Dymo RhinoPro 1000.
The quality of print looks like my now-dead RhinoPro 1000, but I had hoped it would now be a bit higher resolution.
I would be nice if it had a computer interface. It seemed like the version of this labeler I looked at a few years back did have a computer interface.

Really awesome labeler, however...

This is the best labeler I've ever used. Admittedly, I do not have the biggest needs--just lots of labels for cabling, but it does great. However, I am in need of two more, and no one seems to have the kit in stock.

Great Product

I contemplated getting either the 5000 or 6000 series printer for some time until I came across the 4200 at an expo that I went to a couple years ago. I use it on an almost daily basis. I definitely recommend this for anybody that needs a label maker. The QWERTY keyboard makes typing a breeze. A hard case with battery and charger would make an excellent addition to this device along with storage for extra ribbons.
Pros: Easy Controls, Quiet, Prints Fast, Easy To Set Up, Versatile, Crisp Printing, Durable Labels

Fantastic bundle kit!

Solid printer with a lot of resources for many applications. The case included is very nice, it protects well the unit, and you can carry extra cartridges on it. The Lithium-Ion Battery/Charger is a killer feature, you don't need extra cells and save the nature. Highly recommended.
