My 3rd & Best of the Bunch

Every printer I buy from Brother is not because I need one so I find an excuse to get one. The latest I gave to my son so I could have double sided scanning capability. The set up was easy and whenever I do need support it is superb. I wish other unnamed groups had the same standard equipment and support.

What do you say after two weeks

Yes it is printing well, both from a Mac desk top and wireless. Copying and duplexing legal size originals is smooth and a major reason tor purchasing this model Brother C/S people provided critical information that competitors were unable to do. It took over one hour to set up the wireless function due to issues with Apple's El-Capitan upgrade. The Brother C/S team was courteous and walked a non-tech buyer through the necessary steps. The features used so far work flawlessly.

Guarded acceptance of this printer

While this printer is working "okay", I have two main issues with it. 1-The rear paper feed can only handle a single sheet of paper at at time AND, it often misfeeds or feeds the paper out of registration. 2-The feed from the front two paper-bins also occasionally will misfeed and cause the printed page to be offset on the page.
Print quality is pretty good although the blacks are not crisp and sharp - kind of soft or faded. Color printing even in "vivid" settings is also not crisp and sharp.
I use this printer in a wireless environment and the time it takes to load a page is quite slow compared to my old HP and Epson printers I had previously.
If I had it to do over, I would not buy this model. It just doesn't meet my expectations for a so-called commercial grade printer in this price range.

Great for the Most Part

Mechanically all appears to be fine. My only issue is with configuration. There doesn't appear to be any way to assign multiple convenient functions (2 sided bw, 1 sided color, etc) to the front panel. Each shortcut maps to a unique IP (!)
The shortcuts provided require too many button presses and waits. Also I have been unable to find a way to bypass the dialog that appears after every scan.
Consequently I find it marginally less hassle to use the ControlCenter4 for these functions which requires me to walk back and forth between PC and Unit.

This machine is so unbelievably bad and poor quality. I never got to use the machine. I received it on June 3 and by June 6 it was in the shop. Still waiting to get it back in good working order per the advertising claims.

Great on toner use!

My last printer went through toners at an amazing rate but this printer is very economical on toner use. Good print quality & scans well. I do have a problem with this machine though. I process several large payrolls that use checks & they jam all the time. I finally started printing 12 checks at a time to prevent this from occurring. Now I'm down to 10 at a time. This causes a loss of time for me and my bookkeeping practice. Also I have had to void many a check.

Disappointed

The large scanning bed is great and the scanning lid has lots of flexibility for odd shaped books and things. The scan utility "Control Center" is adequate. The ability to place your files in the desired folder is cumbersome unless you want to put them in recently used folders. To select a new folder that hasn't been recently used you have to start at your root folder and select each successive folder. The ability to navigate within your existing folder structure would be nice. There is no ability to change scan settings within a scan file. So if you set it to ADF and scan two pages then want to add a page off the scanning bed you have to create two files. The dual scan mode is OK. It seems to always produce tilted results that require straightening. Sometimes you have to rescan because they are so skewed they cut text off when straightened. Still better than flipping the originals. The automatic size detection is infuriating. It seldom gets the right size resulting in cut off scans that have to me rescanned with manual size selection. I also wish the ADF could handle smaller material but it wasn't advertised to do so and I don't downgrade it for that.
Printing is a disappointment. The only way it prints 11x17 is through the bypass feeder which only takes one page at a time. After many hours spent with Brother Support through email I still can't get it to print the return address of an #10 business envelope any closer than 0.866" to the edge of the envelope even though it can print to within 0.1" on regular paper. I'm told it's the software but the software keeps telling me the printer won't allow the settings I'm entering and auto corrects to 0.86". If I manually set it to 0.25" it just cuts off the address and leaves a blank space until 0.86". I use this printer for my business and now I have to either leave the return address off my envelopes, hand address them (unprofessional), or purchase preprinted envelopes. I haven't used it enough to see if the ink really lasts longer but it prints business material adequately. I haven't tried photos.
