Glass cooktop way too fragile

We replaced a pristine-looking 30+ year old Jenn Air glass cooktop with this unit. We were shocked when Jello in a saucepan overflowed and cause severe pitting and hazing on one of the burners. The cooktop is beautiful but very fragile.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Nice features, easily marred

Although sleek and loaded with nice features, the shiny black surface is a nightmare. It isn’t at all durable, and it’s impossible to keep clean-looking. It’s already permanently scratched from the mere act of gently brushing away salt crystals with a soft, dry towel. We use the recommended cooktop cleaner, and it always looks streaky. We had a much older cooktop for years and years. We could and did scrub it with a Brillo pad, and it didn’t damage the surface. One false scooch of a cooking pan or spoon rest, and your pretty surface will be left with a permanent scar.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Replacement cook top

This is a replacement for our Profile 36” cooktop. The original was only 4 years old and failed to work. Local service dealer said they would not attempt repair because simple parts replacement frequently does not cure the fault. Decide to buy new - repair cost 50% of new if they agreed to work on it. Like the Profile series features and have had good experience with GE products over the years.

New Replacement A Nightmare to clean

I agree with another review from 11 days ago. New Cooktop has very nice features but the cooktop is a nightmare to clean. I have followed all the cleaning procedures listed in the book and it still could take about 30 minutes to get all marks off the cooktop. And - you can never get a nice black shiny finish unless you use the cleaning polish recommended and after you have cleaned with the polish you get streaks on the surface and you have hard time making those streaks not visible. My older cooktop was not like this at all - after cleaning with the polish you could wipe with a wet cloth and dry and it would be a nice black finish. This one you cannot wipe and dry like that. Also the finish looks hazy without using the cleaner on it. I purchased this cooktop for ease of cleaning with no knobs, etc but as stated, cleaning as been a nightmare. I see this cooktop is no longer manufactured - wonder if that is one of the reasons why? You mentioned in another review - if you have followed these cleaning procedures and still have trouble - refer to your one year warranty. What will that do for me in making the cooktop look nice as my older model always looked? Would appreciate hearing from you regarding how to replace an absolutely new/good working cooktop that has a terrible black surface to clean.
