A few weeks after we bought it I broke the tank. First it was not available now it is discontinued.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is my second one. This model is sleet, quiet, and reliable. I'm not giving the model a 5 star due to the difficulty in filling the tank. It can easily slip out of your hands as you attempt to screw the cap on once it's filled with water and awkward to handle. That's why this is my second one of this model. I like it, but you can't buy just the tank as a replacement part. You'll have to buy the whole until all over again. Holmes - you're doing your customers an injustice by not carrying the replacement tank for purchase. Customer - if you purchase this model, be very careful when you refill the tank!

I do like the automatic operations

I've owned probably 12 of these over the last 10 years. 3 are still working, the others failed for various reasons (tank overflows and spills contents onto floor, hygrometer quit working (main cause of failure), or the motor just quits working; even during winter months when I'm filling them twice a day, I have never broken a tank. I have noticed an improvement in the health of everyone in the house since using the humidifiers. Using the bacteriostat double or triples the life of the filters. I would buy again, although I always hope the quality improves. The Holmes and the Sunbeam units appear to be identical, but the Holmes brand seems to me to be of higher quality and reliability.
I would recommend this to a friend!

We heat our home with a wood burner and it makes for very dry conditions. Our Holm's humidifiers work well to eliminate this condition. They take up little space, are small and light weight, which makes for easy maintenance.

QA department did not test this unit

The water tank and the large screw cap are not correctly threaded - the cap always sits on at an angle and so the tank does not mate correctly with the tank.
We'll put up with it, but it would appear that Holmes Products are no longer worth the money. When this dies - and I'm sure it will, I'll be going to another brand with better QA.
The design department should be made to test fill these units a thousand times - they might then come up with a tank that supports itself in the sink when you fill it, and a handle to help lift it out - just like the older two tank models had.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We own several cool mist humidifiers and this one has become our favorite. Because it is tall, it takes up relatively little floor space, and the controls can be reached without bending down as far as for others. The key feature, though, is that the lowest fan setting is low enough to maintain a consistent level of humidity while operating 2-3 days without refilling. The tank is relatively easy to handle. It's too tall to fit in a bathroom sink, but fits under the tub faucet. Especially on lowest setting, it's more quiet than any other cool mist model.

I bought this as a replacement for another humidifier of the same model that I've had for a couple of years. The original humidifier fan had gotten so noisy that I had to turn it off at night. Unfortunately, the new humidifier is not much quieter and louder than the original one was when I purchased it years ago. In addition, the new humidifier filter change meter only registered 3/4's when the new filters were installed and it's still at 3/4's after about a month of use. The filters are starting to turn brownish so it seems like the filter meter isn't working either. In short, it looks like I either got a defective humidifier or the quality of the product has gone down.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
