This Blue-Ray player is amazing. We do not have a smart TV and this device gave us the ability to feel like the smart TV experience. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a Blue-Ray player.
Pros: wi-fi
I would recommend this to a friend!

I really Like Samsung, But...

On the whole this product is a good performer, what disappointed me was the lack of Amazon Instant Video and the lack of an optical audio output.
In ALL other ways this player excels and is sure to please. In fact, if the above to items are not a must for you, then buy it. It matches spec-for-spec the F59000 (even though if you do a product comparison it would appear otherwise).
Samsung did not list the apps this player came with. But who doesn't ship with Amazon or Netflix anymore? And, the images of this product both here and on the Amazon web site, at the time I purchased, showed that it had optical out. When it arrived I found it to have coaxial digital out instead. Fortunately I'm a cable hoarder and I could adapt.
The experience left a bad taste and a strong sense of disappointment that I had not felt towards Samsung until now. Once burned, twice shy - I just don't have the confidence I once had for Samsung.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, Lightweight
Cons: Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I had a Samsung blue ray player already, but I purchased this one for the 3D feature. I also figured that it was better to pair a new player with a new Samsung Smart TV - they work great together.
Pros: Inexpensive, Realistic color, Lightweight
I would recommend this to a friend!

I want to like it, but...

It's too bad, because there's a lot to like about the 5900. The package is nice, simple, compact. Looks well-made. The front-panel display is great. The remote is logically laid out. The UI of the on-screen controls is attractive. I have several Samsung smart TVs and haven't had any problems. That's why I decided to get a Samsung blu-ray player.
The problem I'm having with the H5900 is in the apps. First, there's the fact that this model H5900 is supposed to be an upgrade to the F5900, but the apps are more limited and restricted. Instead of Samsung Apps, we apparently have Opera Apps. I don't know if that explains my bad experiences or not.
The flickr app can't be used at all. There's no way to log in due to a serious software glitch. You can't even enter your Yahoo username. Sad.
In Pandora, I randomly see an alert that Pandora is "unable to connect to network" even though the internet connection is wired and there are no issues with my internet( cable, 30Mbps, lots of devices connected, no other problems reported). Although the music keeps playing, the bogus alert stays on the screen, allowing only one option - to quit the app and go to the Home page. I'd like to continue listening to music and interact with the Pandora app, which appears to be working despite the alert. But "Home" is my only option. It may as well have crashed. Stupid.
Also in Pandora, the unit goes into "screen saver" mode. You'd think that any button press would get you out of that mode but, no, the "select" button is processed by the app. Thus, I have inadvertently clicked on thumbs down on tracks I was enjoying, causing the track to be skipped and giving Pandora the exact opposite feedback. There's no way to go back and correct this. Distressing.
The Opera speed test app says my downlaod speed is 13Mbps. (It apparently determines this in a millesecond or so.) Meanwhile, on my laptop, wirelessly connected to the same network, the download speed is 30Mbps. Another App fails.
The Opera TED app just put up a network-related alert and then crashed, so I'm guessing the wired network connection is really an issue. I'll try wireless and report back here (if they let me edit my review - TBD).
I want to like this unit but, so far, the software apps are spoiling the party. I will revise this review upward if I start to find apps that aren't annoying and/or broken.
Pros: Bright display
Cons: buggy apps
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
