Stunning photos

I recently upgraded from the 6D. Wow is all I can say. The learning curve was minimal but the photos are simply stunning. I have used the new 100-400ii, 24-70ii and the 70-200ii. They all deliver the goods! Impressive!

MY 5DS

So I have been using the 5DS for months now. And let me say this. i could not be happier. Its mainly geared towards Portraits and landscape photographers. The only way to get the most out this camera is to have great glass. 70-200 2.8 II IS, 85mm 1.2II, 35mm 1.2II 24-70mm 2.8II IS, 16-35 F4 IS, 135mm F2, 100mm 2.8 IS, Otus 55mm 1.4, 85mm 1.4, Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art, 135 Zeiss Oppa Sonnar F2. Here is the sad part. ISO performance is poor. I would never go down ISO 400 or even 100 in that matter. 5 FPS is pretty amazing. The feel in the hans is the same if not lighter that the 5DM III. I can't help but say the sharpness is incredible. I don't want to forget to say that the dynamic range is not as good as the 5DMkIII. If u have studio strobes and good glass then u will have the best combination u can have. Because then u will control the light, and not have your camera struggle to reach that ISO. Also if u are shooting under 1/200 sec. U need a tripod. All the information u are receiving from the lens is large and the sensor need to be still even if u have IS. My file sizes are 86mb RAW. 388TIFF 32mb jpeg. I really hopes this helps. Since most websites cannot handle all this. i convert from raw to tiff to PNG i avoid jpeg at the most. U need a hard drive for sure. This camera doesn't have the headphone jack so not geared for video shooters. I love this camera hope u will too.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Camera

Some photographers will love the camera, some will trash the camera.
At first if you are photographer, you have to know what you have in your hand.
Ans you have to know your tool.
I love the camera.
Picture - SHARP - if you use canon "L" lenses
If you use non Canon lenses do not complain about the camera.
ISO performance Very good.
If you try shoot in total dark of course you will not like the camera.
You will not like any camera.
In conclusion if you know your tools and you know work with the tools this is camera for you.
Image size is big with lot of informations and if you will have Canon 24-70 L and 70-200 l lenses and 2 or 3 600EX-Rt flashes you will love the camera.

New 5DS
on June 18, 2015

I picked up the 5DS today and started to take some test pictures. They certainly seem nice so far. I tried it with the 70-200 Mk II lens which is a nice sharp lens. After a few shots, I installed the 1.2 50mm lens since I plan on using this camera for landscape and general railroad type of pictures. The 5DS will be used as a back up and in conjunction with the 5D MKIII on the 70-200 lens pictures. Both have the dual slots for the SD and CF cars so storage is not going to be a problem for most weekend adventures.
I never change lens in the field so multi bodies are needed to take full advantage of the scenes. That also allows me to take video using a tri pod for the video and free hold the other camera for the same railroad scenes.

ISO vs BPI
on October 14, 2015

Love the camera but am disappointed over the reduction in ISO over the 5dm3. the BPI increase is nice and the video features are not significant (dedicated video camera). while a decent bump in ISO is always appreciated, it would have been nice to have at least maintained the ISO capability of the 5D3. I would always choose ISO over BPI.
