Seemed harder but still good.

I've been using Turbotax for about 20 years. This year it seemed a little more diffacult than it has in years past, but at 71 it may be me rather than the program.
I had lost my 2010 Turbotax file and couldn't find a way to retrieve it. This may have been why it seemed harder.
All in all I am very satisfied and plan to keep using it in the future.

Messed up my son's return

I was unable to file an electronic return for my college-aged son because of an issue that Turbo Tax would not accept.
I got out of the stock market some time ago and I finished getting my son out of in 2011. When I was doing my son's taxes, Turo Tax went through the "kiddie tax" section to figure out the tax on the capital gain on the stock sale.
When Turbo Tax did the final check before the e-file, it spotted what it classified as an error. My son had capital gains on Schedule D, but the amount on the parents return (my return) was zero. The program then got caught in a loop asking me to correct this perceived error, and then rechecking the return of errors again.
Ultimately it would not e-file this return and I have to submit this by surface mail. Even when I printed out the return, Turbo Tax tries to tell me that the return has an error.

I bought the version I thought I needed and I do not like being sold more than what I need. Stop trying to sell additional services during the tax preparation part.

NOT THE BEST YEAR!

I love using Turbo Tax but this year I had some Canadian bank accounts to report and it was a mess - I used the online deluxe version at first and then because I was having problems with the form 8983, I took the suggestion of getting the download version (which of course was more expensive so I went down to the basic version)- I shouldn't have to pay $20.00 extra because the online version had a bad form! However, I got through that and the rest was painless. i was also a little put off by the announcement that if I didn't complete my taxes by the 23rd of march you were raising the price - really tacky! All in all not your best year....
