Quick and easy, but had a GIGO information problem that took me several tries to find. I'm still not totally sure I know what I reviewed to move past the problem. I used the Community to ask, got an answer, but still didn
't help. I'm "good to go" now....

Turbo Tax still seems to be a good value, but it is impossibly slow, and the interface can be less than friendly if you haven't used it recently. Editing a previous year's information can be a pain because the prompts don't make it clear when you are overwriting old information or creating a new entry. In some cases, such as refinancing a mortgage, you have to know what the end value should be before you can guess what value to enter in the TTax entry point, eg points paid on the original mortgage before the refinance.
Installation took hours and broke Winders update, requiring several more hours of work to get to where I could download Turbo Tax updates and forms. I'm a programmer and I know that average users would not have ever sorted out what went wrong.
Create a version of TurboTax for Linux and I'll never have to run Winders again.
Also, it would be really nice if TTax didn't keep trying to get you to pay for the more expensive versions while using the simpler version.

I only use Basic TT as it serves my purposes even though my returns sometimes get complicated. For 2011, I had four problems using TT Basic to complete my Federal return (I do my state return manually)
1. In 2011 I had to figure out how to report realized deferred gain from a 1031 Exchange transction using TT. A TT tax expert (3rd one) finally explored meaningful options with me and together we figured out how to represent the deferred gain without restating any data from prior years' returns associated with this property. It took us nearly 3 hours to figure out.
2., 3., 4. These problems all relate to disconnects in the TT software which did not allow loss and tax credit carry-forwards from last year's tax return to properly post on the applicable forms of my 2011 tax return. Again, I spent several hours with a TT tax expert figuring out how to retrieve this information and get it properly posted into my 2011 return.

Year after year the system become even more user friendly. A pleasure to use such a easy system for a complicated tax structure
