That extra mile

Thank the lady who was the telelphone assistance in our problem in sorting out the right answers . We spent hours trying ot enter the information necessary to complete the medical section questionaire. i.e. "perscriptions" term and the medical questions in general did not lend themselves to accurate accounting of all the costs associated with the medical portion. The in person telephone assistance unravelled all that for us and followed through with the filing process al the way to the completioin.... She was a real asset to turb.Tax Co.... we were ready to discontinue using it in future years until she got it all completed and filed.

Intuit has goofed. Their product used to be cutting edge. Now it is slow and laboriuous to even install and access let alone work on your taxes. They will lose their marketshare unlesss they improve.

It is frustrating to have to "relearn" Turbo Tax each year becasue of the navigation changes you make each year.

Refund Ridiculously Big
on June 14, 2012
Posted by: shrimpMeister
I paid a lot of tax due to AMT in 2007. I've been getting refunds ever since. This year Turbo Tax said my refund was $173K. This despite the fact that I paid less than $10 in withholding. This refund amount was obviously way too big but TT did all the checking and was ready to file it. It took me a long time to find the mistake and even longer to get TT to let me make the change without a direct edit of the form. I've used TT each year for at least the last 15 and looking back at the forms 8801 for prior years don't seem to be correct.

Redundancy
on March 3, 2012

With multiple donations and capital gain sales entry - it was necessary to answer DONE twice - IF I am done with a particular item there should NOT be the necessity to verify on the next keystroke.
Entry screen to register never went away - very annoying
Once I found the forms view and could go direct - correcting seemed to be better.

Satisfied, with a few issues

Confusing item 1: IRA Rollover page did not say what to do with the 5498 form I got from "receiving" institution--I had to type "5498" in the question box, in order to be told to "ignore" (simply save for my records) form 5498. Item 2 has been confusing for years: Our state has no "registration" fees for autos, per the interview; but, our town DOES assess property tax for autos. The "Personal Property Tax" page lists boats, etc, etc as "Personal Property" items, but not autos. Every July we get "Motor Vehicle Tax Bill"s from town hall--"Personal Property Tax."
