Tedious

My biggest complaint is all the pop up advertisements, which are extremely distracting when one is concentrating on the task at hand. True, they don't really start until it's time to file, but nonetheless.... a real drag to keep deleting them. Most people don't read them or want the products, so you are wasting your time and mine. Second complaint is not explaining what I DO want to know, like, why is the state file refundable??? No where could I find info on this, although I WAS interested in perhaps filing state electronically. Which I did not do, due to natural suspicion of anything free. Used T.T. for many years because it works for me.

Had to work at at sometimes

I have been using Turbotax for years and generally like the product, especially the transfer of information from year to year.
As my taxes have become more complex, I have had to work more directly in form view, and sometimes have to override the program when it can't seem to figure out the right form to use, e.g. if a capital gain is short or long term when I've clearly told it.
I do only buy the basic product, and if I paid for the more complicated product, I expect it would be more helpful.
I could never do my taxes by hand now. I love the convenience. I have not used other programs to compare. I have used TT online, but didn't like not having the info on MY hard drive, but instead in the cloud.

TurboTax for 2011 could not load our personal return information from TurboTax 2010. I had to load all manually.

I came back to turbotax

I decided last year to try another software... the way the questions were worded made the length of time doing my taxes much longer as I had to struggle with their meanings. Turbo tax makes it much easier to understand what is being asked and why.

2011 form 1040

Just keep it user friendly. In 2008-9, you switched & I had to change to Block's program to escape the frustration of someone doing it "different". Changes are not a good thing when users are used to a certain method of question & answer. If you are asking a question in 2011 use the same method in 2012 -- don't change the method of gathering information. I have been using TTx since 1986.

What tha?

Last year we got a refund over 2,000 and this year 84 bucks. No explanation as to why the difference. When I used their program to research all I got was a lot of generalities. I pretty much know why because I compared my return to last years, but why didn't Turbo Tax do it for me?

On a CSA 1099R block 2a (Taxable amount) is unknown , a person has to go to a work sheet in the IRS book 1040A page 24 (Simplified Mothod worksheet-Lines 12a and 12b) to get the numbers for 2a of the CAS 1099R to file your taxs. There should be a way to go there automaticly if unknown. A lots of goverment retires have this problem every year.
