PREFER PREV VERSIONS

PREVIOUS YEARS, IT SEEMED I JUST STEPPED THROUGH MY PRIOR YEAR'S FORMS, USED THE SOFTWARE TO UPDATE DATA.
THIS YEAR I HAD TO SPEND MORE TIME FIGURING OUT HOW TO FIND THE PROPER FORMS.
SEEMS SOME OTHER SOFTWARE COSTS LESS. I'VE STAYED WITH TURBOTAX BECAUSE OF FAMILIARITY WITH THE SOFTWARE. BUT IF I HAVE TO LEARN SOFTWARE FEATURES EVERY YEAR, I MIGHT AS WELL GO WITH THE LEAST EXPENSIVE VERSION THAT GETS THE JOB DONE.
MY TAXES ARE FAIRLY BASIC, NOT A LOT OF DATA TO ENTER.
LEARNING THE SOFTWARE TOOK LONGER THAN ENTERING THE DATA. OUGHT NOT TO BE THAT WAY.

TT drives me nuts

Turbo Tax in years past has been great, but now the program will NOT let you e-file unless you fill out bogus BS for forms that are NOT needed. You have to manually figure out which forms they are and go and manually delete them. Otherwise it will screw up the tax return.

Everyone should use Turbo Tax so they know their returns are correct. Also, E-Filing is the easier way to ensure your return is received

Fine -- only two hitches

It was fine. Only two hitches: first, it wouldn't easily let me claim my wife as a second exemption while married filing separately (which I'm allowed to do because she's non-US and has no income). The trick is to change it to MFJ, then back to MFS, at which point it then prompts you with questions about your spouse that lead to the second exemption.
Second hitch was the annoying new foreign bank account reporting form (8938). I had to download TurboTax because the on-line version wouldn't support multiple pages of this form; also, this form and the other foreign bank report form (F90221 or something like that) didn't read each other's data, so I had to type everything twice.

Saving my tax return!

The print and save section for returns says

I am always terrified to close Turbo Tax and then re-enter it to see if it can recall my tax return! I am at this point now -- I can see two files out on my hard drive for 2011 so I'm hoping that it saved it. I have to try and retrieve it now and I just hope it's out there. I had this same exact problem last year on my 2010 return. It's nerve-wracking to worry about 4 hours of work disappearing!
And by the way - the save as PDF file does NOT work! It didn't work in 2010 either. The pdf file is full of gobblety-gook and is not a readable document! I can't believe this hasn't been reported to you. I'd like to hear back about a fix for that.
