I did not understand tje state tax charge. Ask for $39.95 , then wanted another $19.95 to e-file and then it was free after mail in rebate. Was the rebate for $19.95 or $59.90?????

frustration

1, The program insists that an automobile be listed and information filled out on an elaborate form for my Schedule C-EZ. I do not have mileage deductions. Why does the program insist that I fill out this form?
2. I tried to efile, but the program would not do so unless I downloaded updates that had no effect on my situation. Why did you not say at the beginning that it would be impossible to efile without updating? Had I filed a week sooner, those updates would not even have been there!!!!
I find these redundant things very frustrating. However, I really appreciate the calculation aspect of the program, expecially when Schedules D and C are included on the return.

Been using Turbo Tax now for "ever". It keeps getting easier to use. Now if they would only write the checks for me it would be even better.

Could be better

Print feature failed to work without a lot of alternative steps to get it to work. In the end, I had to print from the "Preview" page because other links did not work.
In the "Review" process I specifically wanted to know the detail of certain calculations such as taxable amount of social security income. Had to go to Print Preview just to see the worksheet.
Paper returns do not require names and addresses for all charitable donation payees so just because e-file might require it, the software shouldn't make you go through all that detail if you don't plan to e-file.
I've been using an excellent professional/CPA service that charges me $75. for a total package of federal and state much supporting documentation and I don't have to do any of the work. Your service would be greatly over priced if I paid $29. for the Federal and then $44. more for the state online. Even in the store it would have been $60. for both - not much of a bargain for me to do the work to save $15. or none. I won't be using your product next year. I'll go back to the local professional for the $75. great package and service.

Buggy software 2011 for iMac
on April 15, 2012

I completed my tax return. Just prior to e-filing I attempted to download and apply latest updates. The updates crashed the program. I had to uninstall Turbotax and then reinstall it (from CD-ROM) three times, and attempt to download and apply updates three times before the updates would install correctly. Something buggy in your software locked up my machine (an iMac that otherwise runs flawlessly) and I had to pull the power plug on the machine to proceed. On the third try of all this the updates applied correctly. I e-filed my return. Attempting to contact your support services was a nightmare and a dead-end. I have been happy with Turbotax for many years, but this year was a nightmare. You should debug this software to perfection before you release it. Your support availability was abysmal. At this point I must tell my friends to be very circumspect about buying Turbotax. This function, tax filing, is too important for buggy software.

What changed with TurboTax?

I have used TurboTax many times for tax preparation in the past but this year something was different with the program. The program didn't completely transfer data from the previous (TurboTax) return, phrased many sections in such a way that I doubted the accuracy of my information and whether or not my return was going to be prepared accurately. In general, this was a nerve-wracking process for what amounted to basically being a 1040-EZ filed return.
