Look, like most Americans I have a fairly simple tax situation. I've been doing my own taxes since I was 14 and I was born before the Beatles came to the US. I have a couple of charitable contributions, home mortage, etc. And one unusual item, 2106. And except for one year, I've used TurboTax since nearly the 1st year it was available.
But I don't need the cadilac products that Intuit keeps trying to upsell me.
I live in a state without a state income tax (which TurboTax knows), so stop trying to have me file state taxes.
etc.
The basic edition just lacks the polish I've come to expect from TT.

Great Experience

This is my first time doing taxes on my own and though i know my taxes are easy to file, the task seemed daunting. I must say this software made it really easy to file by giving me step by step directions and a sense of security. The information entered had many chances to be reviewed and adjusted if necessary. Let hope the refund and the rest of the process goes as smoothly as the filling

Great product - I've been using it for the last 8 years and have never had a real problem. It seems to get more complex each year but with direct downloads from my financial institutions I don't have to know what it all means or pore through paper to find that one item the IRS is demanding.
But stuff the IRS doesn't demand eg: the data entry page for charitable items asks for address and phone for each entity I enter. I could spent a full day on just that item and still not find all of them. I know the information is retrievable but I'm not going to kill myself gathering it if I don't need to report it. I'll do it if/when I get audited. Turbo Tax should tell me what is actually trequired for filing purposes and what is being asked for documentation purposes.
It prints too much paper. Lots of ink and paper wasted printing out worksheets that have no entries. I didn't ask for all those "smart" worksheetrs. There's 2 pages and 3 X's and 2 zeros. And even if I knew these worksheets had information on them I don't need it. The one thing I was interested in was the tax history report. All my Turbo tax forms since 2004 are filed together. The tax history report gave me 2010 and 2011 only.
