Great SLR Alternative

I love this camera, it is compact, has interchangeable lenses and has excellent picture quality. I have printed 13 X 19 on my Epson R2400 and the results were great. I will leave my Canon EOS 60D at home unless I need some of the specialist lens that are not available for the NX500 yet.
I received my NX500 about a month ago and I am very satisfied with the quality of the photos, the 28.2 MP sensor is AMAZING! The kit lens is surprisingly sharp and very good. The camera feels great in the hand and is a great system. I have to mention how easy it is to transfer photos right to your phone! Samsung did a great job with that software. And the AMOLED screen is extremely clear and detailed. One drawback is that it does not have an electronic viewfinder. I at first was hesitant and it was important to me but really I plan to use this a lot for video and because the screen is great it didn't matter to much, oh yeah it has great 4K video, you learn to work without the viewfinder.
Overall great camera, feels great, have amazing quality pictures and you can't beat it for the price.
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight, great picture quality, good software, easy navigation through menu
Cons: no viewfinder
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great camera with minor annoying issues

I was searching for a camera that on one end would be relatively light, so I would not hesitate to take with me on the hiking trips or for the whole day city walking tour, and on the other end, I wanted this camera to be used at home for capturing my kids and produce high quality pictures of fast running subjects. That is why I wanted a compromise between DSLR and point-and-shoot compact camera. At first I considered NX1, but the high price, large size, and weight stood in the way. I was happy to find out that Samsung released a small brother of NX1, the NX500 in the smaller size. I like the camera overall and the variety of options. It is lightweight, only 1 pound. I think that some points in the negative reviews were placed by people who failed to read the manual. It is a very capable camera with a lot of adjustable options, so one has to spend some time to learn about those options before jumping into the conclusions. As far as comments about the video quality, I think that expectations that one can use it as a professional video equipment are misguided. As for capturing the family events videos it is more than capable. 4K video is really narrower, but I doubt I would use in the near future because it takes so much memory that it becomes impractical. The 1080 (60p) is very sharp, smooth, and can be shot in wide frame. Overall, I think this camera is a winner. Nevertheless, I gave it 4 stars due to the small things that are quite annoying. I am not a professional photographer, but got used to popping up the flash when I am taking pictures of people outside on a sunny day to have the faces properly lit. I only found an "auto" flash option when shooting in either Auto mode or using a Samsung “Beauty Face” option. Unfortunately, with those options, the flash is not firing outside. I can’t believe that Samsung would not allow you to use a fill-in flash even when you have one connected and ready to go. Another thing that I couldn’t figure out is how to add a date imprint into the picture corner, like most point-and-shoot cameras do. I need it for legal purposes in a course of my work. Come on Samsung, please fix these issues with the next firmware update.
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight, wi-fi
Cons: no build-in flash, expensive

Great and easy to use camera... except for low light focusing

Please read this with the understanding that it is coming from a very amateur photographer. Overall, I like this camera a lot. It has a lot of features and is very easy to use. The menu system seems pretty straight forward and there is a built-in help guide to explain what each feature does. So far, I feel the camera takes great pictures. It's really nice to see how changing a lot of the settings (white balance for instance) is reflected right away on the OLED screen. The only thing that I would complain about this camera is its low light autofocus performance. From my research, it seems like most cameras struggle with this. However, I've had a hard time getting the camera to lock on when taking a photo in a dim place. Hopefully firmware updates in the future can make this better. Also, the autofocus seems to like to lock on to random objects sometimes. When photographing my baby, the focus points tend to show up on her contrasty shirt versus her face.
Pros: Realistic color, Lightweight
Cons: slow autofocus in dim lighting, sporadic autofocus selection algorithm

After testing and reviewing many mirrorless cameras, this being my first one, I landed on the NX500. It is feature rich and all around best value.
Pros: value, extensively customizable
Cons: no evf

I purchased this camera as a replacement for another brand. I was really surprised how small this camera is. It is smaller than some micro 4/3 cameras, but with a larger APS-C sensor. Lens are lightweight and sharp. Included pouches are nice to have for the lenses. Camera is super fast with accurate focus. I hope to add a NX1 in the future too, since it uses same lenses. The only con is the lack of viewfinder. But the LCD is super crisp and bright, but outside can be a little hard to see. Adding a viewfinder would have made the camera larger for sure, but maybe Samsung will add viewfinder in next version.
