Great customer support from GE

Our brand new GE Café microwave was just installed, and we couldn't be happier. It replaces our original GE Café microwave, which was installed in our vacation home in 2010. We occupy this home fewer than 50 days per year. It worked perfectly and we loved its features and appearance. However, after 4 years of very light use the touch-screen control panel (used only on this older generation of the Café model) failed. GE Service told me they could send a technician, but because it failed so prematurely and was used so little I asked to speak to GE's Customer Relations department. After being transferred to another number, the GE representative walked me through a brief troubleshooting procedure and determined that our model was eligible for a special program. Under this program GE replaced our microwave with a new model at no charge. A week later our new microwave was installed, and we are just as pleased with it as we were with the first one. This new version is very similar, but it uses an updated control panel. Instead of a touch-pad it has a rotary dial to select features as they scroll across a digital display. I have had many GE products over the years and have always been happy with their support. This recent experience has certainly renewed my high opinion of their products and customer service.

Don't Buy This

I bought a GE Cafe microwave, along with a Cafe oven and Profile refrigerator, in late 2009. About a year ago, the touch pad on the microwave would stop working when I cooked on the stovetop. Steam would get up into the touchpad and keep it from working. It usually worked again within 24 hours. In November of 2014, the touch pad stopped working and hasn't worked since. This is a defect that GE is aware of but, since I called outside of the 5-year time period, I am not allowed a replacement.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Buyer beware!

Our microwave's computer stopped working after 18 months. The product warranty is only valid for 12 months. We purchased GE Cafe with the expectation that their reputation, quality and customer service would be worth the investment... So we purchased 6 high-end GE appliances at once. In the 18 months since purchase, 4 of them have failed, all around the 18 month mark, all outside of the 1-year warranty. Buyer beware!

Terrific product and support

Cheaply made

I bought the entire Cafe Series Set and love everything.... WITH THE EXCEPTION of the microwave. The handle is plastic and though it technically "matches" the rest of the stainless steel handles by looks, it is just covered plastic, which after a month or 2 started to chip and flake. the rest of the microwave has given me no issues but this one thing is actually kind of a big deal. Wish they hadn't cheapened out on 12 inches of stainless steel.

WOW! What a Bummer

I bought this product 4 years ago along with the stove. Looks very nice; worked OK; but it died after 4 years. This microwave needed a new key panel, thermostat and power cord. I would not buy this model again. I would not recommend buying this product as it seems all the negative reviews are about the key panel dying. My last microwave was 10 years old and still going strong; I bought it at costco for half the price.

Replaced the older Cafe microwave

I like my microwave except for 2 things, or would get 5 stars. This model is louder than my first one, and the clock is not bright enough to read it unless you are right in front of it. I miss sitting at my counter eating and can't tell what time it is.

Works great since initial repair

Purchased several months ago. The electronics failed almost immediately, power randomly fluctuating and light dimming while in use. GE covered the repair and it worked great since then.
