I found this at a yard new in box. I have it in my basement to help control the odor from a damp basement. I have it in the same room with a de-humidifer the smell is 98% gone. I love this little machine.

I bought two of these units along with true HEPA filters that must be purchased separately. The true HEPA filters look like they are well constructed. However, the air purifiers have a cheap appearance -- and worse, they smell like something is burning when they are turned on. I ran them for a few days intermittently, hoping that the smell would disappear. It did not. Others in my family confirmed the bad smell. What is the point of an air purifier that does this? The old adage is true: you get what you pay for. I plan to return the units to Holmes for a refund.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I live in a 200 sq ft studio cottage that I share with 2 dogs. I only have 1 window that is always open and this sits on my desk and runs all day every day on the highest setting & I turn it off at bed time because I like it silent when I sleep. I purchase the true hepa filters & use the arm & hammer charcol filters and change them about every 2-3 months but clean the charcol filters with a vacuum more frequently. This thing catches so much fine dust particles from the air and does a great job. It's not quite enough for the size of my space and since it's white or light beige color, it shows the dirt & dust it colletcts so I plan to replace it with 2 small black air purifiers (that use the same filters)one for my desk & the other to place in my kitchen area. On the highest setting, it has gotten a bit louder after a year but I sit right next to it and while working at my desk, I dont have any other noise like tv or radio going. I don't mind the noise due to ringing in the ears- it provides "white noise" and also helps drown out neighborhood noise like barking dogs & squawking noisy crows that get my dogs joining in with the critter chorus. Overall an excellent little air purifier that does it's job as long as you change the filters & vacuum in between changes.

I bought two of these recently on the advise of my Lung Doctor and thought what the heck I will give it a try. I put them in the bedrooms as instructed by doctor and I have never had as good a sleep as I am getting now.;

I purchased the Desktop Air Purifier with HEPA-Type Filter & Optional Ionizer because the other one after MANY years of service finally started to die. This was the next best option. Placed it in service and very pleased the sound an function of the unit.

I bought this unit two weeks ago and so far so good. I really like the fact that you can have it lay horizontally or vertically. I was so impressed with this item that I am going to buy a second one for another room.
