I bought the unit because I live in an apartment where I have to suffer with my neighbor's smoke smells. Unfortunately, what I notice is that the unit would not stop running unless I unplug it. Even when the unit is supposed to be off, it still runs. I did not feel comfortable with that to I returned it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
