Good product at Good Price

I purchased this printer after reading the specs, googling and going through few reviews. This printer is a complete package. Got it at good lower price, got it home and configured. No problems with the setup. There is a new firmware update so plz download it on your laptop and update that too (after you have installed the printer drivers). Printed few b/w and color prints (txt, ppts, photos). I have not tried the Fax yet. Printer is not noisy and has auto sleep mode but quickly detects new requests. The 3.3" touch screen is good to have and works well. Quality of prints are good and largely depends on the quality of the paper. Better gloss paper will have good photo prints whereas color of the photos printed on ordinary paper will no come out well. Overall its a good printer, i can now print wireless from any room and also from my iphone. iPhone app is simple and basic, helps print pictures. My wish list is that it should print mails from my mailbox... currently it prints form the clipboard / memory .. so i have to copy the mail and then select 'print from clipboard' option.

Many features but sloppy

When I first set up the machine two weeks ago I was ready to give it five stars. But since then I've discovered various problems.
On the good side:
--Print quality on letter-sized paper is good and fast. Photos are not quite as nice as my previous Canon.
--Front panel scanning and copying is a joy.
--Bundled PaperPort software, while not full-featured, is quite powerful. OCR works well.
--Airprint (firmware update needed) works like a champ from my iPad.
--Dual-sided printing seems to work well.
--Triple interface (USB, wifi, Ethernet) is a plus for a printer in this range.
On the other hand:
--Envelope printing is horrible. I just discovered this, and had I known about the problem I'd consider it a dealbreaker. Biggest issue is that left and right printable margins are set to .87 inches (even though regular paper prints fine with a quarter-inch margin). Result is a goofy, unprofessional placement of the return address and attention line. And Microsoft Word envelope templates, for example, all fail. Also, most of the No. 10 envelopes I've tried have smeared ink around the return address. All of this is unacceptable for business use. (The fact that this limit was mentioned nowhere in Brother's specifications or manuals angers me.)
--Document feeding is erratic. When I've scanned text documents using the feeder I have been getting a visual "smear" in the top line or two. Also, it often doesn't pull the page in straight, leading to the text being at an angle, which interferes with OCR.
--Paper loading is flaky. There's no firm stop to the leading edge of the paper. Instead, it can slide right up and over the end of the tray.
--The remote setup function of the Control Center stopped working and when I went to reinstall all the driver software on Brother's advice the install kept failing. Took me an hour and a half before I discovered I had to remove the administrative software manually first.
If you're not likely to print envelopes this might be OK for you. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

Compact. EASY set-up. Paper stays clean in cartridge. Ink easily assessable (and hopefully cheaper in the long run than my old Canon).
WIRELESS! -finally- I can print from my iPod!

I love this machine but I have never owned a brother machine that goes through ink as fast as this one. Seriously.

Great All-in-one

I received this as a replacement printer when I had a problem with a different model. So far I have nothing but praise for this printer. I particularly like the ability to duplex documents, and print directly onto a printable CD or DVD. The Brother iPrint & Scan app is great to print directly from my iPod Touch.
I also have a Brother laser printer and a couple of Brother P-Touch Labelers.
I have owned/still own other brands of printers over the years and I must say that Brother Customer Service is the best in resolving problems. I'm sticking with Brother products for future needs.

I have owned many printers (as most of you have) and this is BY FAR, the nicest, great design and thought went into this gem. I love that it has the large touch screen interface, can print onto CD-DVD discs, has a built in 4X6 paper tray just above the same 8 by 11 paper tray below. I like the software included, the DCRom which expands on the functionality and options that this printer offers, as well as the software for making cards and other creative ideas. It is a wonderful experience, not diffucult to set up if folks simply read the directions in advance. The step by step instructions are done well and make the experience equally important when having the proper know-how to use the printer properly. This is the BEST printer I have had to date . A great choice ! Impressive !

Great wireless printer with lots of fancy function

Love the compact size and sleek looks of this printer. Makes my old HP all-in-one look like a big clunky dinosaur. The Brother 825 takes a bit longer than I expected to receive data via wi-fi, but it's acceptable for the luxury of being wireless. Installed it on a system with an AT&T Gateway 018 modem/router and my XP computer. I had the Quick Startup Guide, the User Manual and the online installation guide in front of me and it became very confusing. I guess it was too much information. Anyway, I struggled for several hours trying to install wirelessly using the software, then hooked up a USB cable and tried some more - all to no avail. The screen to allow me to enter my router's security code never came up for me. Finally, in desperation, I did a REPAIR/REINSTALL on the CD and, giving up on the three "recommended" methods, in a last-ditch effort, I used the last "Manual Configuration from the control panel" method, as shown on p.33 of the Quick Setup Guide. Doing the manual set-up from the printer's control panel worked like a charm. On the machine LED screen, I pressed MENU/NETWORK/WLAN/SETUP WIZARD, selected "Switch Network intrface to wireless" and the printer immediately found my router. I selected my 018 router and presto, the printer started working on wi-fi. Installing it on the second computer (Windows 7) was a snap. Just installed the CD and then tried to print something, and voila, instant success. One sour note Re the fax function: When I hooked the 825 up to our phone line, our modem/router lost its signal. Somehow the Brother 825 interfered with our wi-fi. Had to unplug it from the phoneline in order to get back online. Will try buying a phone "suppressor" and putting it on the phoneline between wall jack and printer - hopefully that will cure the problem. Can't give it five stars until I know the fax function works and doesn't bring down our wi-fi. 'Til then, I give it 4 stars.
